The Dayton audio crossovers only work with 4 or 8 ohm woofers, the tweeters have to be 8ohm. But they don’t make them in 8ohm, makes no sense. Also the sensitivity on these has to be wrong, they are immediately noticeably less sensitive than what the specs claim. Using a resistor to make them 8ohm would lower the sensitivity even more… which makes these tweeters for diy use very difficult to work with. Just best to avoid these are there are so many other options out there. It’s a shame as the Dayton reference mids and woofers were amazing, not sure what they were thinking with these reference tweeters.

I reworked an old pair of Alesis Monitor One cabinets to accept Dayton 7" aluminum cone woofers and old Dayton RS28A-4 aluminum tweeters. The job required a lot of routing to enlarge speaker holes. In the end, I found the aluminum tweeters sounded harsh, which I attributed either to the design of the tweeters, or thickened ferrofluid after they sat unused in their boxes for about 20 years. The new RST-28 series is a physical drop-in replacement, although the crossovers had to be reworked because they are quite different electrically. Once I sorted out the crossover, I found the RST-28F-4 tweeters sound smooth. Sound stage is wide, and I can pick out individual instruments with ease. Easily the best sounding speakers I've ever built, and I have a shelf full of unused tweeters and woofers!

Iniziamo subito con il dire che trattasi di un buon componente; buono tendente all'ottimo, se ben filtrato. Mi spiego meglio: ho preso questo componente in quanto il crossover delle mie casse "taglia" molto in basso (1.500 hertz) e quindi per incrociarmi bene con il Woofer avevo bisogno di un componente che rispondesse adeguatamente già a partire da 1.400-1.500 hertz, e questo Tweeter della Dayton è uno dei pochissimi a scendere così in basso. In pratica è un Tweeter che fà anche il lavoro del Midrange… un Mid-Tweeter insomma. In queste condizioni (da 1.500 a 20.000 hertz) lavora quindi bene. Ma và detto che se decidete (e potete...) di farlo lavorare un pò più in alto (da 2.000 hertz in sù) funziona anche MEGLIO, in quanto deve lavorare meno… il suono non è mai stridente o esagerato, gli acuti sono ben scolpiti senza troppa enfasi. Niente sensazioni "padella che frigge", niente "S" sibilanti. Molto buona la riproduzione delle voci; i piatti della batteria risultano (giustamente) leggermente arretrati rispetto agli altri strumenti. Prestazioni assolutamente più che dignitose anche con la musica classica. Buona anche la dinamica. Piuttosto la sensibilità dichiarata (93 db) appare un pò esagerata: secondo il mio modestissimo parere non supera gli 89-90 db… sono cmq soddisfatto, il Tweeter vale tutto il prezzo che costa ed è anche arrivato in anticipo. Attenzione: il prezzo è riferito ad un solo pezzo, e non sono compresi i condensatori di filtraggio: se non disponete di un crossover, questi ultimi (secondo mia esperienza) dovrebbero essere da 3,3 micro-farad in su.. costruito Cina secondo strette specifiche della casa madre (Dayton) - Luca da Roma -
