Stock one failed, resulting in random misfiring (p0300 flashing CEL). This solved the issue, however being an aftermarket part causes a p0340 (crankshaft position) which does not show up with the old one installed. Albeit with no noticeable impact on how the vehicle runs.

This part was $40 cheaper than any I found at the local auto parts stores. It comes with the connector and seal for where it connects to the coil module that connects to the spark plugs. It also comes with clear instructions, new screws with the locking compound applied already and a pack of die-electric grease. Installed it on my daughter's 2005 Cavalier and it runs great.

2005 Pontiac Sunfire. For the last few years sometimes (3-4 times) the car would start and it would clearly be missing. Usually after a few restarts or a warm up and then a restart the issue went away. But after 11 years the issue would not go away. El Nino showed up and after a few rainy days it was missing very bad, shaking and smelling like gas. Replaced plugs with no results. Replace the ICM and all worked great again. Just to be sure I put the old one back in again and same miss. Takes less then 5 minutes to replace. Original part was made in USA and this one was made in Singapore. Hoping it lasts.

It's not about this unit, which has so far worked fine. It's about the poor engineering design of the part to begin with that has forced me to replace it four times since I bought the car 8 years ago. And when this part fails, it can do real damage to your car. Your car will run on two cylinders while still dumping gas into the non firing cylinders, which then exhausts unburned fuel to your catalytic converter and ruins it. But hey, it's not the fuel system's job to care if your ignition system is working, right? If you have one of the many GM products that uses this part, keep a spare on hand. Chances are you've already replaced it anyway.
