Once again, you cannot beat the quality found in Denis wick products and mouthpiece line. The 3AL , while not the largest of bass trombone mouthpieces , produces a solid , clear , deep tone and fine response. The clarity of the upper register is great , making it a very suitable piece for 4th or 5th trombone in a big band.The response throughout the registers is smooth and consistent like all DW models seem to be. And it is a good piece if you double on Bass Trombone and Symphony tenor. I currently play the DW 4AL ,4BL, 4BS and the 3AL. These mouthpieces are so consistent in design and concept , it makes it so much easier to adapt and switch models as needed. These are available in silver or gold plate. It, of course , is a matter of preference, but the gold plate is very smooth to the touch and is very long lasting, making it about the finest in the business and a feature boasted by the Denis Wick company. Though it makes the mouthpiece more costly, I feel it is worth it.
