Have purchased over 10 of these. Why? Because it is a fairly decent low end leather halter. I breed warmbloods and have many different horse head sizes these need to fit.Fine for an every day halter. These used to have a better cheek latch, but at some point they decided to cut costs and replace it with an easily broken latch. Of the 10....at some point this part fails in every single one now. I have had one break in less than 2 weeks, and longest at around 4 months. Have had to pay to have the snap replaced on them all. I would rather pay $5 more and have a better closure. Fit is fine. Can make it fit adult half Arab horse to a big 19h hanoverian with a horse shaped head (oh....but it is very large). Does not fit young stock or small headed breeds, would still need to purchase yearling or cob sizes for those. But horse to small draft, it fits. Leather is a bit stiff. Softens some with oil and time. In general, a safe halter. If they fixed the snap, I would give it a 5.

I've got one of those in between size draft/cross horses. He is a tad too big for horse and a tad too small for draft size. This actually works perfect for me. But just a heads up this halter would be way too big for a regular size horse head. It is nice quality and I am very happy with it.

Ok, so the halter leather is good quality if you don't mind good, 'ole fashioned elbow grease to work a heavy, quality leather oil into it. (Suggestion, for those who don't already know, and wrote reviews about the halter being too stiff: OIL IT!!! Then, let that oil SIT... overnight, or for 24 hours if you can... so it has time to be absorbed thoroughly by the leather! Then, move all the leather pieces of the halter like you're playing with a Slinky, and it'll be great! MAYBE, yours will require a second application of oil, but mine did not.)But, I will agree with the other comments:the sizing of this halter is just a tad weird. My horse wears a horse size bridle & halter but has a LARGE forehead. I mean, I don't want to make her sound like an ET look-a-like, but a horse size browband NEVER fits her, and I have to buy draft-size/oversize browbands for her - yet, the horse size of this halter was still too big!?!!??! So... I investigated, and was shocked how long the headstall is on this halter, even though the nose portion of the halter appears to be completely normal, "horse size", like my old, broken halter. In summary: of course, you get what you pay for, folks! But, if you don't want to pay 80-100 bucks for a fancy, triple-stitched halter with zero issues...I would say this is a good option. So, even though I hated punching a hole through the center string of the triple-stitching on the headstall (and, it took significant effort with my really good-quality leather hole punch to accomplish that), I went for it anyway because I had removed the tag, oiled it, and missed the return window, like so many other procrastinator horse women I know - so I really had nothing to lose but the cost of a replacement headstall.Fast Forward: it's been about 2 months of daily wear - my kid gets daily turnout in a herd in most weather - and the stitching I "compromised" by punching two additional holes (one each side) looks EXACTLY the same - not one bit of stitching has unraveled near those holes I made - and the halter looks great despite daily abuse from my horse, and despite my complete refusal to clean or oil it (standard practice for me for all turnout halters.) I even plan to purchase another one of these as a backup for the one I just told you about, because my horse NEVER breaks the headstall on her halters - that's too easy to replace - she only breaks the parts that when I ask the guy at the harness shop about repair, cost me +70% the replacement cost of the halter.

Full of white mildew, not SOFT at all, hard leather, smells like old mildewed leather, plastic like quality, finish rubs of easily when wiping mildew off. Brass has green on it, snap is junk, small, cheap. Would not waste your money! Only bonus it did ship fast.

Cheap hardware. Cheap leather I expected. Cheap hardware is dangerous.
