Nice looking table with poor looking legs.The legs have ugly finished and mine came very scratched with finish heavily pealed. Husband does not want to return and waste time. The table looks nice the legs do not match but it does the job.

Very nice, sturdy table, and the drawer is very handy. Assembly on the top screws for the legs is relatively difficult; Very little room to move the Allen wrench it’s easier if you have a tool with an Allen wrench head.

The Design Toscano "Walpole Manor" Chess table is a mid-line table that looks great from afar, and is sturdily constructed enough that I expect it to stand up to generations of use.Pros:Looks great, and will be a wonderful addition to my library.Feels larger than the dimensions would indicate.Large square sizes means it works well for a variety of chess sets.Two bolts per leg for extra reinforcementMetal threaded inserts for the leg bolts.Very easy assembly.Well packed - box had some dings on the outside but it was well protected by Styrofoam packing. I did however need to spend ~fifteen minutes carefully picking Styrofoam bits out of every crevice in the table, but much better that than having it damaged during shipment.Cons:The detail is a bit haphazard is you look too closely.Three of the four legs were fine, but the fourth leg must have been manufactured by someone new to the job. You can see from the attached photo that three of the four legs have a carved angular rectangle at the bottom . . . while the fourth is a square for some reason. Someone did not get the memo!Shoddy detailing on the fourth leg piece - if you are easily annoyed by lack of symmetry this will bother you if you also receive a substandard part.Did not come with an Allen Key (though the instructions indicate it should have). Fortunately I had some on hand from previous furniture purchases that fit.The underneath of the chess table is really rough - not necessarily an issue as the only ones who will be seeing it from that angle are my cats. Not all the parts were sanded, so needed some manual touching up so kids won't risk getting splinters.Plastic clip to prevent drawers from scraping - would have preferred something sturdier like metal, will be replacing that part.Tips for assembly:Open the draw all the way when attaching the legs, as unless you have tiny hands you will need all the help you can get.Assemble it upside down - should be obvious, but I can see some people might want to attempt it that way so as not to risk scratching the surface.Put a towel or a blanket below the chess table surface when assembling so as not to scratch the surface.Overall I love it - it is a great table for the price, but because of the price point don't be surprised if there are some defects. Had it not been for that fourth leg and the splinters underneath, it would have been a five-star table.

Easy to assemble when you use common sense and it looks great in my library. I've had this item in my wishlist for over a year but it was too overpriced. I checked the price a couple days ago and saw that it had dropped 40% so I couldn't pass it up. Very pleased with this purchase.The manufacturer must have addressed the board orientation because mine is "light on right" with the drawer facing out (not toward a player).

Der wirklich schöne Tisch wurde mir erst nach 6 Monaten geliefert. War ein Geschenk, aber nungut, Handarbeit etc denke ich braucht Ihre Zeit und hat ihren Preis. Umso enttäuschter war ich, dass der Tisch leider nicht optimal verpackt und daher bei Lieferung signifikant beschädigt war, leider auch aussen/sichtbar. Auch war ein Bohrloch nicht korrekt, sodass der Tisch nicht korrekt zusammengebaut werden konnte (was ansonsten recht unkompliziert machbar war).Ich habe direkt Fotos gemacht, diese an Amazon geschickt und bat um Austausch oä. Dies war aber nicht möglich, da der Tisch zu der Zeit nicht lieferbar war. Da ein Geschenk, und schon so lange gewartet - und da der Tisch ansich ein Prachtstueck ist, schlug ich vor, den Tisch beim Schreiner reparieren und fixieren zu lassen. Amazon bat um Kostenvoranschlag eines Schreiners und nachdem ich den geschickt hatte, stimmt Amazon der Reparatur und Kostenübernahme schriftlich zu.ich liess den Tisch also fachmännisch reparieren - und dann begann der Marathon: etliche emails und Telefonate. Amazon schlug nun vor, den Tisch doch besser zurückzunehmen und den Kaufpreis zu erstatten. Wohlgemerkt NACHDEM ich diesen auf eigene Kosten (in etwa nochmal der Kaufpreis) bereits hatte reparieren lassen, wie vorher abgeklärt. Dann hiess es, ich habe nur den Kostenvoranschlag, aber keine Rechnung geschickt, und sobald ich die Rechnung schicke, würde diese bezahlt. Nachdem ich diese nochmal geschickt hatte, hiess es auf die Rechnung müsse noch der Firmenstempel. Nachdem ich dies gemacht und zugeschickt hatte, und dann ein langes Telefonat mit einem wirklich sehr freundlichen Mitarbeiter hatte, hiess es, man würde sich melden, und sicher bezahlen. Und danach gings aber stattdessen back to square one: nochmals wollte Amazon, dass ich den reparierten Tisch zurückschicken solle, etc etc. Nach der dritten Runde und ca 10 emails und zwei Telefonaten habe ich erst einmal aus Erschöpfung aufgegeben.In Essence: ich habe auf den Tisch 6 Monate gewartet, dieser kam dann leider beschädigt an, und ich habe durch die Reparatur den doppelten Preis letzendlich bezahlt (das ist der Tisch dann doch nicht wert). Ich habe Etliches an Zeit und Nerven vergeudet ... aber wir haben zumindest nun einen wunderschönen Schachtisch, and dem meinen Mann und ich gerne spielen.

The table is nice but putting it together is a nightmare. First the table arrived with no instructions and parts list so you have no idea if you are missing anything. Directions would have definitely helped in figuring where in the assembly the different parts should be placed. Second the legs of the table fit at an angle when put to the table to be attached therefore having two people to put it together would have de it easier. Third the holes in the legs were not drilled well as trying to get the large screws to fit is very difficult. At time it took 8 to 10 tries to get the screw all the way in to secure the leg on. Fourth there is very little room for your hands to work in order to attach each leg. I had to use a small flash light near each leg to see what I was doing.By the time I was done I felt as though they should have paid me to buy the table. The table was so frustrating that I was fuming when I was done. I had enough time invested in putting it together that I did not want to start over. I bought the table from the company that sells them through Amazon even though it was $10.00 more than other sellers on this website. I figured I would receive a product that they would have given better care to due to charging more on Amazon.Finally I would say do not buy this product until they get the issues stated above resolved. It is a nice table but not worth the frustration.

This was exactly what I was looking for! I grew up playing chess with my father on a marble chess table he picked up in Greece before I was born. I loved the aesthetics a full chess table brought to the living room growing up. I wanted the same aesthetics without the weight. This was perfect! It it's a beautiful piece of high quality. I've played on it several times now. The height is just right and the wood tones are beautiful. An added perk is the drawer that I am able to store the hand carved chess pieces in. Don't hesitate on this one, well worth the price!
