This pile of junk leaked from the output shaft seal within a 1/2 mile of installing it. Customer service with the manufacturer is absolute crap too. They ghost you of you have a problem. Maddie the customer service rep doesn't respond to emails at all. Do yourself a favor, save $100 and buy a Cardone.

I like to start my reviews by pointing out that I have been a professional mechanic for 39 years holding a Master ASE certification in both automotive and Heavy Truck.I point that out because it goes without saying that when I but replacement parts, I expect they will be OEM or at least the same quality and fit of OEM parts. No mechanic likes doing the same job twice. Especially on our own vehicles.I first heard of Detroit Axle when rebuilding the front suspension on my Grandson’s Mazda. I was so impressed with their parts, I rebuilt the front end of my daughter’s BMW using Detroit Axle parts. When a friend wanted to replace all four struts on his Expedition, I offered to help and suggested Detroit Axle parts. So its no surprise that when I needed a steering gear for my 30 year old Ford Explorer I ordered the Detroit Axle part. It was a perfect fit and needed zero adjusting. If you have ever tried adjusting the backlash on a steering gear mounted in an Explorer, you have to be very creative, there is no room to get in there. I was pleased that this one needed no adjusting.

I replaced my gear box with this one. I didn't know at the time of install but a few months later I loat my power steering. I could not figure out where it was leaking from so I started replacing parts and lines. It still leaked after that so I turned the wheels all the way so I could stick my head in there to find the leak. I found the leak coming from the gear box cover thing. I figured the gearbox was good but I decided to go in and replace the seal today. When I went to go remove the bolts from the cover I discovered that the bolts were soo loose I could spin them with my fingers. I reinstalled them so hopefully that doesnt happen again. When I pay for something like this I expect the part to be in top shape. I wasted countless hours in that leak.

Didn't know the warranty expires in only 30 days. This company would not take a return on a defective product. I was in the process of painting and removing and replacing a bunch of parts on my ford bronco. I ordered a steering box as one of my many repairs. I ended up taking my truck in for the R and R of this steering box. When the part was installed the mechanic turned the wheel once and the seal at the pitman arm blew out. I think the cause may have been that a c-clip may have been slightly dislodged, either from manufacture error or UPS throwing the box around. You shouldn't have to do this for a new part, but double check to make sure your c- clips are all the way in place before installation.I called Amazon, they said you have to call Detroit Axle. The company said you cannot return it because it's been past thirty days. Now I'm stuck with an extra boat anchor sitting in my garage. Thank you Detroit for doing absolutely nothing to assist me with this issue.

After 4000 miles on my 93’ f350 this unit is still working great. There is still a little slop but it sure beats the wandering all over the road that I used to deal with. Good deal!

Gear box went in without a hitch. In all my years of tinkering on cars and trucks, this was the first gear box I ever tackled. Piece of cake. !! I would guess I saved $75.00 or more in mechanic fees. Whole job took about an hour. Got a thousand miles on it already and very pleased.
