I have not yet used this in a project, but I tested it and it does activate at around 4mm to a ferrous surface.I tested it with a 12V of power. It's specified for 6-36V in the product title, but the product details state that the operating voltage is 5V. One star off for this discrepancy.

This is one of those basic parts that does what it is suppose to. There is not documentation or spec sheet included but there are only three wires, power, ground an signal and they are marked on the label on the base. It has a small red LED on the base to show when it has detected ferrous metal near the end.It does come with the mounting nuts and lock-washers and the entire length is threaded to adjust for positioning. The NPN type are supposed to work with the Mach3 CNC boards and that is the intended use for this one.Recommended.
