I bought this piece in March 2019 and I have been using these for over a year now. I have used them very frequently in some minor house renovation and small projects. The drill is very powerful and the battery is very lasting. I have to say DeWalt produces exceptional good quality products and it's a must-have and you won't regret it.

Excellent tools. This is my second set. After a few years of use its time for some new ones. I've dropped the drill off ladders, down stairs and in a puddle once and it keeps working. Nice and light, easy to carry all day.

Bought this kit a few weeks ago and have been using it for all sort of home repairing.A few things I wish I knew beforehand:- its great for all sort of DIY home repairs, with plenty of power, on most task more than you need- while it has less power than the 18v/18v XR variants, they are more confortable as they are less bulky and lighter. A pro usage on really hard materials may requiere the 18v variant, but it's more than enough for most of us while being more confortable to useRegarding the impact driver, I read a lot without understanding really until I got them in my hands. Both the Drill and Impact Driver will be useful for screw driving bits, you will use one or the other depending on the surface and power needed. The drill will apply force while the impact driver will apply force and "impact" to the screw, allowing it to enter/exit with easy from most surfaces. The drill will make holes on must wood surfaces but had not enough power for some masonry walls

I love this impact driver. I use it every day in the auto shop I work at. It makes quick work of 10mm bolts. On a full or mostly fully charge it will break loose most 10mm bolts. Anything bigger, or over torqued, you will have to break free by hand. The drill is less impressive. It is ok and I have yet to experience any problems with it. It is a nice drill. BUT, like the driver it is only 12V. It lacks the power for many drilling applications.I rate these 5 stars because they have worked flawlessly for me over the past year and a half. I bought them knowing that the 12V might be a little power than I wanted occasionaly. BUT the reason I decided to go with the 12V versus the 18V or the 20V is because I did not want to risk breaking bolts. I would rather run them in with this, and check them by hand, if they are important bolts. The batteries last a long time. I usually only charge every week to 2 weeks, if I use it a lot. The battery charges in about 30 minutes and lasts forever. I only charge the battery when it completely dies. I don't put it on the charger every night. The bag it comes with is cool. I use it to keep all my shaving stuff in.

I have had DW cordless tools in the past and was never impressed too much. The clip in battery style that they used over the years is poor at best as the batteries often fall out of the tool while you are using them. Had it happen to me and seen it happen on sites all the time and which was part of why I went to Milwaukee for 18v tools.I had been using a friends DW 12V kit and really liked it so I had to get one myself. The light weight and small size are great in the shop and in the field. The batteries slide on like proper batteries and do not fall off. Battery life is good though the first couple charges the battery won't last long but it gets better very fast. Charging time is quick as well but a third battery is really needed when using both tools. The drill. Holds a 1/16" bit fine. It's a nice racheting chuck. Has more power than you would expect and can drill harder materials than you would expect. Has one little LED would be nice to have the same LEDs that are on the impact driver though. The impact driver. Comes with a 1" phillips bit. This is nice but 1" bits do not fit the tool, it uses 2" bits or bigger with the locking notch in it. The chuck is very nice. You do not have to open the chuck when inserting a bit. Just slide it in and it'll open and lock. The three LEDs are great. Makes a great flashlight too. It will drive quite a few 1.5 range screws and will drive 3" screws but not as fast and not as many as a larger driver but very respectable for it's size and it's not meant to drive 3-5" big screws all day long like my Milwaukee 18v one is.Overall great product.

This set came at the recommendation of a close friend who's a professional cabinet builder. I checked it out one day while cruising the HD tool aisle for deals. It felt excellent in the hand, very well balanced, and was about 2/3 normal 18V size. I got the bug to get it to replace my old Ryobi 18V set. What a difference. The little impact driver is very powerful and, because it's so light, can get torqued right out of your grip (its fatter, heavier uncle, the 18V NiCd, countered the torque better). The drill is smooth as well, has the usual 2-speed transmission and has clutch settings. The belt clips are removable--DeWalt sends it with them un-attached. The charger, just like all DeWalt chargers, is very simple. The included bag is fairly lightweight; I wouldn't stuff it with a 250 piece socket and wrench set, but it'll hold what you need for a simple project. The 12V max line has several unique features that I like: It has rubber bumpers on all sides. Clearly this was designed to work as a finish-work drill, since you can lay it on any side and not scratch a surface. Another smart design is the one-handed impact chuck, which will accept the longer 1/4" hex bits as well as the 1"L x 1/4"W hex bits. One of the smartest designs is the flat battery pack, which allows the tool to stand upright, unlike the competitors' 12V products. There are only two drawbacks I've found so far, and I'm nit-picking: 1)There's no bit holder or magnet. Its a feature I miss. A lot. 2)You can see some decline in DeWalt quality compared to their tools of 5 and 10 years ago. Nothing significant, just very small details. Its still a top of the line product. What I like about the set most, though, is the fact I can throw them in my 16" wide-mouth tool bag and only increase the weight by 5lbs. I travel from school to home on the weekends and like to have "my tools" with me. This set allows me to taper from two bags to one, without losing functionality. One side note, you'll find yourself doing double-takes a few times when you see the set somewhere the old 18V's wouldn't fit, eg, tool bag. Your periphery catches it and says, "Thats not supposed to fit in there, it hasn't for the last 10 years!" That is how similar it looks to the older DeWalts.I'm a DIY'er so it hasn't been subjected to rough abuse. Yet.
