Sharp crescent-shaped blade is offset for greater strength, control, and balance. Constructed of hand-forged boron steel with an ash hardwood handle. Makes gardening chores quick and easy. This tool is guaranteed a lifetime! On April 1, 1898, Willem DeWit started his blacksmith company in a small village in northern Holland. Today, the 4th generation of the forging family is running the company. Old-Fashioned quality combined with innovative designs make DeWit the ultimate gardener's choice. Using the latest equipment and techniques combined with historical craftsmanship make DeWit one of the most respected garden tool manufacturers in the world. DeWit tools are made from high quality Swedish Boron Steel. European Ash hardwood handle is strong but lightweight, and also has elasticity so the tool can bend without breaking. The Ash hardwood comes from FSC (forest stewardship council) certified forests. Tierra Garden is proud to offer these superior tools in the United States!

As a volunteer gardener in a botanic garden, I do a lot of weeding in difficult places. This tool is excellent for removing a variety of weeds from various soil types, and the extended reach helps make it safe to work around prickly plants such as cacti, agaves, and cycads.

This was an awkward tool, not long enough or short enough and not as sharp as I would have liked. I am planning to return it. However, it is sturdy.

I am a serious gardener, and pay close attention to tools and how they help me. The DeWitt Dutch Hand Hoe is the same design that I used to see called a "Japanese Hand Hoe"-- I think its design comes originally from Japan. It is perfectd. The blade is sharp and canted at just the right angle. The tool is light enough, but heavy enough to help me when I am attacking weeds. This tool can be used to dig out deeply rooted weeds, lightly scrape the surface to remove little ones just getting started, even to dig a trench or just cultivate the soil. I have a right-hand version for my wife, and TWO left-hand versions for myself (just in case). I wrap the metal shank with bright tape to reduce risk of losing it. . .because this is my best ally in the garden. u

This is a great weeder. I love the left handed option. I’ve been using these for years and they don’t break...they do, however, get lost! 🙁

20+ years ago I bought a hoe identical to this Dutch Hand Hoe Weeder, only then it was labeled a Japanese hoe by Smith and Hawken. I wore that hoe out in those years and searched for a replacement, and this was it! I have never possessed a better weeder. The blade skims under the surface of the soil terminating those evil and unwanted weed seedlings. Its point will dig out young dandelion, or thistle starts. Its weed-ability is fast, and its triangle shape is precise and accurate allowing close up weeding to flowers and herbs that belong in the bed, or garden. I love this weeder! I was so excited and happy to find it again, and purchased both the right and left version of this amazing tool!

We are big fans of this style of weeder. This time I was specifically told to come up with one for the left hand, meaning the blade is bias off center to the right. We are very happy with the quality. The tool is sturdy and has enough heft to penetrate without requiring so much wrist muscle. Just over 18" with ample contoured handle.
