I had the Turlen gauge initially for years, broke the tip off, but used it constantly for years. I eventually gave it a good bang, and it broke. So I bought this set knowing what to expect for durability. The price for just the thing I was replacing was over half this entire set. So I opted for the whole set for another arm and 0-1” indicator. The arm holds well, and is easy to adjust. The magnetic base is a little smaller than what I was expecting and doesn’t hold as well as another brand that I have. But, it still works.

There is excessive friction on the outside dial used to set 0. When you try to set it all your setup goes to hell.

At a fraction of the price of "professional" grade products like Mitutoyo or Starrett, does the job on our mini mill. More than adequate for amateur work. The person who wrote that only one of the gauges fits the magnetic base arm doesn't know what he is doing. Both fit it!The person who described the magnetic base as inadequate was probably using it on a poorly machined or unmachined surface. These bases are designed for machined steel surfaces such as you have on a milling machine or lathe, and for those this base is more than adequate.

Works great, smaller mag base than I expected and has to tightened really tight to stay rigid.

After using these indicators it seems like great value for a machinist on a budget. They were buttery smooth, had zero detected backlash, and were repeatable when check on the machine and surface plate. They might not be the best out there, but they were on par with my Starretts. The test indicator actually beat my Starrett on repeat-ability. Even the Magnetic base worked great, it doesn't have the little adjuster knob that the Noga's have, but other than that it works fine. All in all, I'd recommend this set for any beginners, hobbyists, or machinists on a budget.

We use Starrett and Mitutoyo at work, but have a policy against letting these things grow legs and get used in home garages. I purchased this to assist with a differential rebuild, and used it to check the backlash. I knew the description said "mini-magbase" but I did not see any dimensions provided. It is mini indeed! Looking at the switch face as the front the it is 1 3/16" wide, 1 3/8" tall, and 1 3/8" deep for the larger magnetic piece. The switch plate is 1 1/8" x 1 1/8" x 1/8". I found the magnet to be of insufficient strength to hold the mag base assembly to the differential with the indicator positioned where it needed to be. I ended up using a large C-clamp to hold it in place.I subtracted 1 star because the 1" travel dial indicator face plate didn't match what was pictured. I picked this set because I like 0 through 9 to be on the same row, but what I received had 0 over .5, .1 over .6, .2 over .7, etc. I find this version cumbersome to read. I suspect this allows them to produce these with one less watch gear inside, thus the cost savings.Edit: I dropped this to 1 star because after a few weeks of using the larger dial indicator, I started to get spurious results and it kept losing zero. I plucked at the cap and let the plunger ride the spring to bottom out. The needle bounced and moved a random amount. I did it again, and the same thing happened. I did it again, and the needle fell off. I tried crimping it back on with some tiny needle nose pliers, but that failed to solve its issue. On top of that the miniature mag base is only partially useful for the last word (or inspection indicator depending on you diction), but it's just not that useful.Save your money. Buy a quality tool once, cry once over the sticker price, and live life. Avoid this. Get a larger mag base as these items are too heavy for the weak magnets to maintain contact.

The test indicator is junk. It has an odd backlash, the spring return doesn't seem to return to 0 (even with a slight load) & only accurate in one direction but the rest is OK. I like the base actually, but the thumb screw for the micro adjustment is in the way of the spring so it doesn't swing in all directions.
