Great piece of kit for “on the fly” touch-up of your blade edge. However, about $4 overpriced.

I have used this diamond stone to reprofile the cutting edge on 10 to 15, 3 - 3.5 inch, EDC knives. Cuts quickly and sets a good initial bevel, followed by other finer grit stones. Seems to be holding up well. I've always used it with soapy water then cleaned it with hot water. It has functioned well on D2, 14C28N, N690 and 8Cr13MoV steels. Seems like a good value.

Great little tool. Sharpened my snowboard edges instantly. Make sure you dip it in water to get rid of the metal residue. Highly recommended

These are intended to sharpen skis, ice skates, and so on. I bought mine to put a rough edge onto a crappy splitting maul that I bought for cheap at a big-box hardware store. Off the shelf, those things make a butter knife look sharp. This little diamond hone takes off a lot of material very quickly, especially right out of the packaging, so I wouldn't suggest you use it to sharpen anything that you want to have a fine edge until after you have broken it in. After you do that, it's still quite aggressive, but I used it to recondition a hatchet that had been mistreated. It made quick work of reestablishing the edge, and after that it was no problem to refine it with a standard whetstone. This hone is quite small, so it doesn't work well as a bench stone, and it does not have any guides to help you maintain a precise angle, so I would not recommend it for anything that really demands a consistent edge. Don't use this on your kitchen knives, for example. Honestly, it isn't really suitable for an axe or hatchet, unless you are prepared to come back with a proper sharpening stone and do the job properly. For a rough-and-ready approach on a blade that is so dull and ill-maintained that it is useless, it's great.

I've reviewed my DMT Aligner Pro elsewhere; it's an excellent tool for those of us who are sharpening-addled. This was purchased as an add-on to that kit to do what I mentioned in the title. It's coarse enough to take a lot of the drudgery out of getting the edge into shape the first time around. For example, I'd never been able to get my Ka-Bar *really* sharp along the full length of the blade. The more I looked at the edge with a magnifying glass, the more I realized that parts of it hadn't really been shaped to where I was actually sharpening the edge; I was just polishing the sides of the blade. An evening in front of the TV with this stone took care of that, and the Ka-Bar is now shaving sharp along its entire length.

My Swix sharpener came with a metal file. I wanted to use diamond sharpening stones with the Swix holder to sharpen my skis. I purchased the DMTextra extra coarse diamond stone as well as the DMT mini diamond stone set (extra coarse, coarse, and fine). Using the stones I was able to develop a very sharp edge on my skis. I only used the stones once, and hopefully they will continue to be effective in sharpening my skis.
