Diatomaceous Earth

Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade – 100% Natural Organic – Safe For Humans and Pets – Fresh Water Powder – Sealed Bag

Diatomaceous Earth packaged under our Fossil Shell Flour label comes from an extremely pure fresh water deposit of fossilized Aulacoseira diatoms created in the Miocene epoch. Why is this diatom so special? Its shell is made of amorphous silica. Its shape and hardness in the fossilized form are important to how it works. Its hardness keeps it from dissolving in liquid. The diatom’s tubular shape and holes along the diatom's wall allow it to absorb moisture, hence its use as an anti-caking agent. The tubular shape of the diatom gives it more surface area than other shaped diatoms. This means it has a greater absorptive capacity with the holes that open to the center and improved mixing and flow of animal feed. Fossil Shell Flour does not swell, does not absorb nutrients and poses no long term hazard when used as an anti-caking agent in your animal's feed. Fossil Shell Flour consists of 89% (and often more) Silicon Dioxide plus numerous trace minerals. Fossil Shell Flour is almost pure white when dry and appears light tan when wet. Other diatomaceous earth deposits often contains an excess of a particular mineral such as iron or a high percentage of clay giving it a darker color or a reddish tint.

The results are underwhelming but their is a good amount of diatom activity when wet. It’s fairly good for a micro biome of activity which oxygenates the soil and allows other microbes to thrive with it.Harmless to human and animals. Hard to gauge the purity though.

This is such a wonderful product. One could drink it for their own health, add some to their pets food or water, dust on their pets coats, use it on house plants, use in a garden... so many different applications. Do your research. This is food grade , easy to use, tastes like dirt.. (kind of kidding) and well worth the money. Will last a long time.

Product seems good, good deal…but the Amazon packer forced into a box too small which kind of popped the bag near the ziplock seal so it arrived leaking powder all in the box and all over me when I opened but at least it is non toxic and they refunded me.

I never even heard of this stuff until my friend from Tennessee told me that this was great stuff for when your chickens want to take a dust bath and they're a bit itchy. It's really fine powder so you want to supervise if they're in a brooder type small enclosure.I think most people just have it in frisbee when they're little or in a huge outdoor pan if they got a lot of chickens. Be careful opening the bag because it could be all over everywhere it's like flour. I'm new to the chicken hobby but from what I hear in the chat groups 3-week-olds just naturally start wanting to just bathe even if they haven't been around any mom chickens or adults.

We were having fruit flies infestation in the automatic cat litter (whiskers). I usually clean the cat litter out every week by taking it apart and hosing it down. I suddenly started finding an infestation of fruit flies in the waste drawer and several buzzing around the outside of the litter which we keep in the laundry room. Twice I broke the litter down and hosed and bleached the whole entire system piece by piece avoiding the electronics as best as I could. There were cocoon like eggs embedded in the system and it took me hours to find and bleach each one. However after a week they all came back with a vengeance . I was losing this battle even after keeping a small cup of apple cider vinegar with a couple drops of dish soap in the laundry room. Many drown themselves but it did not rid us of fruit flies infestation. I even hung dbl sided stick fly paper near litter which caught some fruit flies but still had infestation. Finally used this food grade level DE by sprinkling a small amount in litter , a 1/4 in litter waste draw, and sprinkled another 1/4 cup in dispenser mixed with new litter so when new litter cycled into the main kitty litter bin it added some more DE to the mix. At first I saw no change. 1 week later when it was time to break automatic kitty litter again, I found NO Evidence of fruit flies in litter or any eggs embedded in the many different crevices of the kitty litter. Thank you Jesus !!! I will continue this for a few more weeks just in case. Also using on the outside of house foundation for other nasty pestilence trying to get in house.Warning when using product, inhaling DE is dangerous to your lungs and pet lungs so keep it very controlled, use a mask 😷 while shaking it around house and do not allow particles in the air when using indoors. It’s safe to use on pets but still not safe to inhale for anyone. It works by breaking down the skin of insect because it dries them out. It harmless to our and pets skin but do some research on it. It’s thick and messy, but I keep the resealable bag in the box it shipped in for storage.
