Die Hard is the movie franchise that made a movie star out of TV star Bruce Willis, and created an entire action-movie genre of its own. In the original 1988 film, Willis plays wisecracking New York cop John McClane, who arrives at the Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles to meet up with his estranged wife, Holly (Bonny Bedelia), at her office Christmas party. As luck would have it, the company ends up in the middle of a terrorist plot led by Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) and his gang of expert killers, and with little help coming from outside, McClane has to pick off his enemies one by one. Thus was born the "Die Hard genre", epitomized by such films as Under Siege (" Die Hard on a ship"), Passenger 57 ("Die Hard on a plane" ), Speed ("Die Hard on a bus"), and Cliffhanger ("Die Hard on a mountain"). But few measure up to the explosive brilliance of Die Hard. Director John McTiernan develops the action at a fast and furious pace, culminating in some fantastic set-pieces on the top of the building, in the elevator shaft, and in the building's outer plaza. Jeb Stuart and Steven E. de Souza's script, based on Roderick Thorp's novel Nothing Lasts Forever, is smart, funny, and full of memorable lines (among them "Welcome to the party, pal!" and of course "Yippee ki-ay, motherf*****"), and the cast is perfection, especially Rickman as the cunningly evil villain, and Willis, whose McClane character--bloodied, beaten, bruised, and barely breathing, as he battles both bad guys and bureaucrats--is someone audiences could genuinely cheer for. --David Horiuchi

i'm a huge fan of the Die Hard movies so any fan of the film knows the plot.this review is about the different DVD reissue'sthis 2007 steelbook is the best version you'll ever get of Die hard cause it's the 2 Disc editionit's got tons of extras on Disc 2 including 2 extended scenes not included in the Theatrical versionthere is Deleted scenes, outtakes, Newscasts featurette which are interviews with cast and crewand audio commentary aswellplus the Picture and audio quality is fantastic widescreen, better than the 2001 releasethis steel book reissue has been digital remastered using 2006-7 Digital technologymuch better quality then the 2001 releasei also compared this 2007 steelbook reissue with the Die Hard blu-ray version, the blu-ray quality is better cause it's blu-ray technologybut only slighty better than the 2007 dvd version i found, it's matter of opinion really.the only difference between the blu-ray version and this steelbook releaseis the extended branching version is not on the blu-ray versionthe branching version has the 2 extended scenes not included in the Theatrical versionwhich is the power shutdown sequence and the Airplane scene, so as far as i know the Blu-ray release has only the Theatrical versionand i prefer the full uncut version of this movie which explains the plot more thoroughly.so yes good info to know that the blu-ray version of Die hard does not have the 2 extended scenes and only has the Theatrical version.in my opinion if the blu-ray does not have the 2 extended scenes option aswell as the Theatrical versionthen there is no point buying the blu-ray release at alli'll stay with my 2007 release which i think is just as Good picture and audio quality anyway.

This DVD has a deleted scene that was needed to answer a question that Electricians spotted in the film. Very short but good with a couple of seconds in B&W because it was never intended in the final cut!! Lots of Extras. I always wanted a tape of AMC TV 'The Definitive DIE HARD' on television. My wish came true finally! Yippe Ki Ya!

John McTiernan's "Die Hard" not only retooled the conventions of the modern action-thriller with its wisecracking lone-wolf cop, it also boosted "Moonlighting" star Bruce Willis from smug TV gumshoe to A-list actor. Willis operates his campaign against Gruber's super-thieves with clever booby traps and a lot of cheeky macho chatter, via a "borrowed" walkie-talkie, while McTiernan makes the most out of the setting--an unfinished corporate skyscraper. Rickman's wonderfully sinister turn as a haughty villain only adds to the excitement. For fans of clever, stunt-heavy, heart-racing suspense, "Die Hard" will never expire.

The original (PERIOD) Die Hard turned Bruce Willis into a bonafide film star. Moon Lighting was good, but McClane is Bruce and vice versa. This film is one of the, if not the very best action film ever made. It has all the explosions, blood, witty remarks and bullet holes that have defined the genre, and in plentiful supply. I can't imagine anyone has NOT seen this, but if you are out there, do not hesitate. The original is the best. Yippee Kai Yay....

Because of the fact that the new Die Hard movie is coming out, 20th Century Fox has discontinued the GREAT Special Edition DVD's of the first three Die Hard DVD'S, and are replacing them with newly-packaged one-disc versions with only half of those original DVD's features. This DVD, the Special Edition Steelbook, is the only DVD that Fox has just released worth buying, because it is a repackaged edition of the original Two-Disc Special Edition of Die Hard. Hopefully Fox will do the same thing with the other Die Hard movies.Bottom Line: Forget the new Die Hard boxset, get this instead and wait for the other ones.
