The diesel exhaust fluid reservoir is a reducing agent heater that allows SCR (selective catalytic reduction) to operate at low temperatures. DEF is prone to icing and needs to melt as quickly as possible in order for SCR to reduce the amount of nitrogen oxides and release them into the exhaust system, thereby reducing the concentration of nitrogen oxides in engine diesel emissions.
