This item is Japanese and I can see why. Their island is earthquake prone so I can see why this was from there. It's fairly well padded and the color would make you easy to see under rubble in a disaster. It's really easy to put on and you can see clearly. However, if necessary you can pull the front together to protect your face better. This is a great idea and sits next to my fire ponchos and gloves in the bedroom. I never thought of such a thing before I saw it and now realize what a great item this makes in my disaster kit. Most homes have multiple people living there so you'll need one for each person.

Although one looks like a huge "banana head" while wearing, I understand the merits and durability of this particular hood. When not used for head protection, it works as a seat pad with an elastic piece that can go over the back of the chair, depending on the chair size and style. When on one's head, the hood has about a six-inch gap between the top of one's head and the top of the hood, so it does not sit tight upon one's head. It is well-made and I can see where it would add protection during an earthquake with falling debris, but more importantly, better protection if a fire breaks out in your home. Our home has a horrible design in case there was a fire, and I wanted this for our daughter's room, in case it's ever needed. Currently being used as a seat cushion, it will still be handy for her if needed - just in case. Recommend.
