A real pain to install but if you have had freeze plugs suddenly pop out of your new rebuilt MGB engine you will understand.. For some reason once original freeze plugs removed on these British Engines new ones don't seem to stay in place after a year or two. Having rebuilt enough engines in my lifetime and 35 years a Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic it is upsetting to have freeze plugs let go without a warning. So these Dorman's being Copper will seal well and stay put dry installed. They are a pain to hold still with a 3/4 wrench while tightening the acorn nut. The Trick is to use a 2-3-lb hammer and give them a smack with a broad punch around the acorn tightening nut and a couple light wraps on the acorn nut to get the freeze plug to expand and grip so holding it from trying to spin while tightening the acorn nut slowly! Tap again after tightening the nut until your nut is pretty tight and the freeze plug doesn't turn with the big wrench then its set. I keep a spare set in my Boot.

The product dimensions on the main page lead me to believe that this was a 1.5 “ diameter plug. Those dimensions must be for the package. The diameter of this plug is 1 5/8 “ instead. Doesn’t fit!

I bought these to replace an MGB blown plug and it is doing the job. It's good enough to carry one in your spares just in case. However, it is a bit difficult to make them "bite". I advise you to start the expansion before trying to put them in. Just tighten them a few turns on a bench until they enter the block tightly and then finish tightening in place. Otherwise, the large spanner won't grab and it will rotate without expanding.
