I purchased this fuel sending unit for a 83 Chevy deisel. It works as it should AFTER I had to modifie the unit and the trucks wiring. The sending unit comes with the required pice of metal that the " Water in Fuel" sensor indexes onto the sending unit. The pice of metal was to wide for the sensor to be installed. I was able to get the sensor to fit on the pice of metal by griding one side of the metal down. The second issue that I encountered was the grounding tab on top of the unit was placed directly behind one of the two pins. The truck wiring requires that the grounding tab be inbetween the two pins. Because of the placement of the grounding tab it kept the wiring from being able to be plugged into the unit. The truck is not a daily driver. So, this gave me some leeway to "engineer" some modifications. I tried to put a few bends in the grounding tab to get the wiring to fit. Which didn't work. So, to get the unit to work I sawed off the grounding wire from the trucks wiring. So, the two pins would fit into the plug. I ran a independent wire from the grounding tab to the gauge on the dash. I realize that this sending unit is designed to work on a range of vehicles and It might be a plug and play on some. But, for a 1983 Chevy diesel with a water in fuel sensor and with the grounding tab between the two pins. It worked only with some modifications.
