I've got a Dremel habit, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. They make good tools, and the Dremel name, through various ownership changes down through the years, has been associated with a reputation for quality and innovation. I'm very happy to report that this is still the case with this new generation of "Blueprint" 12V cordless tools.I was initially a little hesitant as I didn't quite understand how the "Integrated Application Selector" presets worked and I was concerned that they would be limiting, compared to my more traditional corded Dremel OMT with the speed dial adjustment. I was also unsure about the 12V platform in terms of overall power. As it turns out, I didn't need to worry at all, as the motor that they've used in this multi-tool uses 12V and turns in into more power than I thought was possible in a cordless unit of this size. Color me impressed by that! Battery life seems excellent, as I'm still on my first charge. On opening the box, I wasn't sure about the length until I attached the battery and then held the tool in my hand, at which point the balancing made sense. Once I started using it for some trim undercuts and some corner sanding detailing, I was impressed by the maneuverability and the ease of handling. Blade changes were so much easier with this system. No more allen wrenches and clamping plates to juggle. I love that! Most interesting to me was the Integrated Application Selector. By stepping through the choices of cut, scrape, grout, or sand, the tool is set to the speed range appropriate for that blade or attachment. Then, and this is the part that I didn't initially understand, the trigger is variable speed, and it takes the tool through the defined RPM range of that setting. No worry of going too slow or too fast or scorching the wood or warping the blade or anything else. So clever! There's also the regular manual ("Max Range") mode, which lets the variable trigger go through the entire 7,000-20,000 RPM range of the tool. The trigger range isn't all that long, so the RPM control is fairly coarse in that regard, but the available presets will cover most of the necessary speeds you'll likely ever run into, and the manual option is there to let you turn it up to 11 if you feel the need. The lock function is useful in all modes, but especially in manual mode as it means you don't have to focus on holding the trigger just-so to get the speed you're after. I found myself relying on that lock each time.Other useful features include the visual battery gauge and the LED work light (other tools could learn from this!). Most importantly is the honest to goodness manual that's included! Yes, it's true, a print manual that's informative and worth reading! There is a bunch of important information about how to correctly use the various attachments for best performance and blade/tool life, and it is worth noting that while there are many ways to use oscillating multi-tools incorrectly, there are only a few ways to use them correctly, and this manual will help you understand those ways. Take a few minutes and read it. You'll get much better performance and longer blade life, too!My only disappointment was that this tool & its associated accessories didn't comes with any kind of bag to contain everything. I guess I'm supposed to store it in the box? Or in a dedicated bin in the junque drawer? This is a bit of a mystery to me, and for the price, it seems like a pretty big oversight. While I'm sure there will be 3rd party bags made that fit it soon enough, it's disappointing that there isn't a Dremel-branded one included. Hopefully this will be addressed if they do any revisions. This isn't a big enough thing to take a star away from the rating, but it's worth being aware of, nonetheless. All in all, I've long thought that everyone should have some kind of oscillating multitool if and when they're ready to move beyond their starter toolbox. With this Dremel Blueprint 12V Brushless Project Multi-Tool, I think I would amend that idea and change it to including this tool in with their starter toolbox. It's user friendly to even a complete novice, and once the user has experienced what it can do, it will quickly earn its place in with the regular hand tools when it comes to household maintenance tasks. Two thumbs up on this one!

This Dremel Blueprint 12V cordless multi-tool is like winning the tool lottery!I have more tools than your local tool dealer, but sometimes jobs defy those tools and require a little more angling, like when I did impossible to remove wheel bearings a few years back.EVERYONE NEEDS A DREMELI remember as a young person with limited tools, I figured the day I got my first Dremel, a million issues would be solved, and I was correct. I had the basic model for the first time out, and found all sorts of things easier to fix with it on board.Recently, I acquired the Doggie-dedicated Dremel pet nail trimmer, which operates at quieter speeds. Unfortunately, my dog considers all machinery to be some sort of sorcery, so we are able to watch two of our dog groomers use the Dremel on her after they get pre-paid with a handsome tip.EVERY UPGRADE YOU IMAGINED IN THE NEW DREMEL BLUEPRINT!SPEED SELECTORBut back to the star of the show here - the Dremel Blueprint, which has designated settings so your first attempt at sanding a piece of furniture doesn't turn into a "How do I replace giant divots in my wood furniture from an aggressive tool?" project.CORDLESS = DO ALL YOUR DREMEL-ING HANGING FROM THE CEILING LIKE A CAPED SUPERHEROLove that it's cordless! My old OG Dremel will forever exist with the semi-dirty, kinked up extension cord attached to it, because whatever I need to Dremel will NEVER be next to a wall outlet, guaranteed. This one also has a backlit display that tells you precisely how much juice you have left to grind, sand, buff, and cut.NOW OBSOLETE: "WHERE'S MY DREMEL BIT CHUCK?"I think the star of the show here has to be the easy blade changes? Truthfully, how many of you have lost and found and lost and found your Dremel wrench from your original multi-tool? Yes, I know it came attached, but for some reason, one day I loosed mine and for the years since then, it's been like trying to find and catch a skittish stray dog. This Dremel Blueprint doesn't require you to find or lose anything - blade changes are super easy with the integrated release knob.NO NUMB HANDSWhen I was young, I was somewhat oblivious to all the challenges arthritis would introduce to my life, and never dreamed that once I started making enough money to buy all the cool tools and maybe have time for more rounds of golf, the arthritis in my hands would make doing all that a little more difficult (I still don't have time for rounds of golf, but hey, getting older by the minute!).This Dremel Blueprint is designed in a way that seems to absorb some of vibration effect from the device. I'm not sure if that's an engineered feature, or if it's merely a by-product of having an on-board battery, or a benefit from not having to sling the extension cord over your shoulder to use it? Whatever the case, this new Dremel is much easier on my hands than my old model.HAS ENOUGH POWER TO CUT DOWN THE NEIGHBOR'S TREE, PROBABLYSometimes when you upgrade to cordless, you're going to lose some power. That doesn't seem to be the case here, as I had plenty of juice to cut through the old bearing on my wood chipper (that refused to budge even with a modified bearing puller), and do other metal work at higher speeds.Since summer's here, I probably won't cut down the neighbor's tree, as we'll need the shade. But this fall when the "Ash Tree Seed Downpour" starts, I will most certainly issue warnings to the tree about all my cordless Dremel can do, including felling a 50 footer. Now that we're cordless, I'm remembering the monster list of "little jobs" around the house that needed done but weren't quite worth hauling out the extension cords and Dremel attachment library. I'll get after them while the novelty of having a top-grade cordless Dremel is still new.MAKE THIS YOUR HOUSEWARMING GIFT!For all those young people moving into their first homes, people show up with potted plants, wall art, and such, but wouldn't the best gift be something you could give them to keep their new home in tip-top shape? A cordless Dremel would have been a dream gift for me, even in Apartment #1 in a series of homes.I could rave about this all day long, truly, but there's that list of "little jobs" to get after. I hate sanding stuff, but since I have a tool that will do most of the hard work for me, I predict smooth, beautiful finishes on everything! So excited to have THE tool of my dreams. Total win!
