This grip never worked for me. Fully charged batteries and connected the grip to my Nikon D5200 DSLR and powered it up. Camera would not come on. Only a message on the screen would show. Message telling me to only use authorized batteries. Tried with the batteries that came with the grip and original Nikon batteries with same outcome. Seller takes returns but I mistakenly missed the window due to personal circumstances and I don’t blame the seller.

It’s best value for money extended battery. I am giving 4 star because it’s not sturdy.

Although the instructions were translated from Chinese they were easy to follow. The system worked flawlessly and I really like the option to use AAs if I run out of Nikon battery. Unless you really have to have something other than plastic this unit will cover all the bases.

As I expected. Haven't tried the remote. I don't need it. Cable works but i don't need it too. All I need is extended battery life and more stable camera.

I bought this grip as a gift for my daughters Nikon D5100. I also own a Nikon D5100, so, I did get a chance to try it on my own camera (although I did take any pictures with it, I checked it for fit, feel and functionality). The fit was good, it was pretty easy to figure out how to set it up (remember to put the battery door from the camera into the slot on the part of the grip that goes into the battery compartment). It is a very basic grip, not a lot of functionality, but it does make taking pictures in the portrait mode a little easier. It doesn't scream "CHEAP!" but if you listen closely, you can hear the "cheap" mantra in the background. As for feel...well, to me, it has that plastic feel to it. There are parts on the grip that are "rubberized", which is nice, but it still feels a little cheap. But Hey! Nikon did not make a grip for this camera, so I am thankful that someone took the time and energy to make one. The remote is a nice touch, and I am sure that the extra batteries will always come in handy. I also like the off/on switch for the shutter release button. If you are on the fence about even getting a grip for your camera, for the money, I would recommend this one. It gives you a little more to hold onto, and it gives you a little more balance if you are using a bigger lens. It also makes your camera look a little more professional. After you have the grip on your camera for a while, and get used to it, if you take the grip off, your camera will seem small and insignificant....I have the Nikon OEM grip on my D750, and it feels like an extension of the camera body...as it should. After using that grip and then going to the DSTE grip on my D5100 there really was no comparison. But, like I said, for the money, it's not a bad grip.

I looked at getting one of these a couple years back, now that my model of digital camera is "obsolete" these came down in price. DSTE was rated as the best from what I could tell, and I'm very happy with it. The remote triggers the grip shutter, so you don't have to hassle with the cameras built in remote mode. BUT, and this is the only downside I've noticed after some moderate usage, it's not the same code as Nikons. I honestly wouldn't expect that DSTE would build each unit to function with the camera makers IR coding, but it would be nice to just have 1 remote. If I lose the DSTE one, I expect it to be far more of a hassle to replace than running down to the camera shop to pick up a Nikon/Cannon remote. Probably more expensive too - but that's assumption.Additionally, there is an On/Off switch on the grip. I have no clue what it's for. The shutter release works fine when it's set to off and on. Doesn't affect power or anything at all really. Not a clue why it's there, but it doesn't get in the way so that's not an issue.

This attachment really gave me the extra kick in power capacity I needed to utilize my wifi card attachment for remote viewing and shooting. With a single battery I used to be lucky to get 2-3 minutes before the camera would shut off the wifi feature. Also, I can now do some medium length timelapse shoots outdoors. The included battery slot for 6 AA batteries is invaluable. In a pinch with no time to recharge? just plop in some cheap extra AA's. I love it!

Holds two batteries so longer shooting time. Wire on side doesn't effect shooting. Love the shutter button on it for taking vertical shots.

This is my second batter grip for my D7100. This one models the Nikon version more closely. The grip has two thumb screw wheels, while other cheaper models have only a large central screw wheel. I found those models would disconnect electronicly and drain the batter or just stop working.
