These planters work well for growing veggies. I wouldn't have believe it if I hadn't tried it myself. Last spring I grew 2 tomato plants/box and 6 sweet peppers/box and was very pleased with all the tomatoes and very large red bell peppers. This fall I grew broccoli. The heads weren't very large but the planter where I grew 2 plants instead of 6, the plants got 3 times as large and may still produce side shoots. The leaves are edible and can be used like spinach, steamed or fresh on sandwiches. I may have to adjust the fertilizer for broccoli.I bought 3 more of these to grow more veggies since the soil around our house is questionable for prior owners using pesticides. With this system I can use organic soil. Also, plants love growing in these containers. I planted one of my tomatoes in a very large pot, fertilized and used same soil, and watered every time I watered the earthboxes and got only 4 tomatoes from it. I lost count of all the tomatoes I got from 4 in the earthboxes and they just kept growing out onto the deck floor. I finally let our local mockingbird have all he wanted to eat because there was plenty for us all : )

I wasn't sure this would live up to the hype but the soil in my area is very heavy clay and I haven't had much success with tomatoes so I thought I'd give it a go.It was easy to assemble and the instructions were clear. I bought some good quality potting soil from a local nursery and followed the directions from there. I put two small roma tomato plants in it and watered it daily.Perhaps it's just my bad past experience in growing tomatoes but I was astonished at how quickly these plants grew. Lots of flowering and there are loads of tomatoes on the vine waiting to ripen so far. I did put tomato cages around the plants to support them. Should be quite a crop.This thing is kind of expensive for what it is but if I can grow tomatoes for years in it the investment is more than worth it. Might get another next spring and put a couple of beefsteak tomato plants in it.

Not impressed with this product. Tried planting carrots and spinach, which are typically pretty easy to grow. Nothing came up, despite us following the directions. Not worth the money.

Update (January 15, 2015): Still LOVE my Earthboxes!!! Great yield and couldn't be easier! Our house flooded and we had to stay in a hotel for a week and I only had to come back to water my boxes once. They are so easy and I really couldn't love them more! Especially great for those just starting out. My only note is about the fluctuation in price. I could handle $38 for one of the boxes. However, I've watched the price steadily climb for a couple of months now. It's $58.79 today. It's a great system and I'm not going to change my 5 star rating but I do feel that is pricy, especially when you consider that for a decent size yield you are going to need more than just one box. I currently have two and could easily put two more to good use but I can't justify spending $120 to buy two more planters. That's just me. So, my advice is for those that want a better deal, put it in your "Saved for Later Cart" on Amazon and keep an eye on the price since it can fluctuate significantly._________________________________________________________________________________Buy this planter! I loved the Earthbox so much that I had to buy another one, so did a little more research. I bought this Earthbox instead and was very skeptical since it was $20 cheaper. However, I am writing this review because it is better than the $58 Earthbox on Amazon and is $20 cheaper. Make sure you buy this listing not the other one. This listing is Organic and it comes with everything the other listing comes with plus an extra red cover option. The $58 listing said it would come with a red cover and didn't and it wasn't Organic. Otherwise they are exactly the same and this listing is $38.52. I would advocate buying directly on the Earthbox website but they charge a lot for shipping and this box is way cheaper for the same exact thing.Definitely give the Earthbox a try, it will change the way you garden! I started my seeds first with a seed starter kit and then planted my seedlings in the Earthbox.Also be sure to check out the Earthbox site because they have a forum you can sign up for to get tips and help from other Earthbox gardeners. It helped me when I was selecting my soil from a local big box store since neither of the Amazon Earthboxes come with soil (only the fertilizer and dolomite).Happy planting!

I trust Amazon and I trust Earthbox (the seller on Amazon). So I did not realize until I opened everything up, got my soil into the Earthboxes and then went to open up my fertilizer bags. That is when I noticed that I was LIED TO and sent nasty non organic fertilizer made of meat, bones, etc. I AM SUPER DISAPPOINTED RIGHT NOW. AND RETURNING IS REALLY INCONVENIENT!!I'd like the vendor to do the RIGHT THING and send me the Organic fertilizer as depicted in this ad. If they rectify this ASAP then I will post a positive review.

I purchased this for my daughter in-law, who has been trying to grow veggies in flower pots. My wifes first attempt at an earthbox crop was great, and I expect this one to be also. Would be nice if there was a larger box as well. Easy to use kit and instructions, and wheels make a very nice option.

I ordered this twice and both times it was incomplete and not as described in the product description. It never came with the fertilizer that is pictured, so it seemed not to be worth it. I ended up buying one from a local nursery.
