Do not follow the instructions and completely disassemble the muffler shield and such on the husvarna yth 1942 mower model. Not necessary. I angled this down with rhe appropriate pre drilled holes and the hood on my mower opens and closes just fine. Might be why it extends out a tad further than most. Highly recommend

Definitely not the straightest bumper, as it came slightly bent, but very functional. Install was easy, I like that that give you nylock nuts so they won't vibrate lose either.

This thing is extremely poorly designed! When installed properly, there is no opening the hood, and you can’t put the muffler shield on. When installed upside down, it’s too low to the ground and has two holes in the bottom that will let water in to rust this out from the inside. The only way to install this effectively is to use the browning shield holes and drill new holes for the back, the fill the drain holes that are now on top. This was a maddening waste of my time, for minimal protection. I’ll be welding a plate onto this bumper to protect my browning shield, which is really what the point of this bumper should be if you smart enough to not just ram into things. If I could get this review published with expletives, every expletive possible would have been used above, so please add them in your head as you read this and don’t wast your money. Just plan on keeping a stock of browning shields for when the cheap metal of the shield gets ripped apart every few months. The only good thing about this bumper is it’s a solid piece of steel, but the powder coating is destroyed after installing it and uninstalling 3 different ways. Total garbage and pure frustration!

As other people have stated, you have to use the upper rear and lower front bolt holes in the Husqvarna 18542 mower in order to be able to fully raise the hood. Otherwise, this is a terrific product.

Instructions were for a mower that was different from the one I have. I have a Husquavar YTH 18542 Mower I purchased from Lowes in January of 2021. However, with a little common sense and a little mechanical knowledge, it's easy to figure out. If you look at the picture of how I mounted it, you will notice I mounted it at an angle, very important, cause if you install it any other way, then the hood will not be able to open fully. I used the hardware that came with the bumper, however carriage bolts about an inch and a half long, the ones with a square hole would have been better, however, I didn't want to make a trip to Home Depot or Lowes, so I used what came with the bumper. Still worked good and looks good. the bolts should be inserted from the inside out, so you can tighten them up easier. The bumper already paid for its self and saved replacing the hood, wife already tested it by running into the house and fence while mowing the yard. Overall I'm very happy with it. Hope this helps.
