As a theatrical lighting designer, I also like to add dramatic lighting to my home as well. This is nicely built and will achieve what I need it to do.The more expensive apertures are "smooth" and don't have an internal ring allowing the slot to pan right/left. But saving the 20 to 30 dollars is well worth the little "ring" you can see. Unfortunately my actual fixture didn't clear a low-hung HVAC duct that is lower than expected! But I can't wait to actually use this fitting.
