And voila! It works! I actually took video but there is already one available from another reviewer and what you see is exactly what happened to me. I kept thinking "this thing doesn't work"! But I swear I heard air escaping when I first took my video. I had to leave but put the can in the refrigerator while I was gone. I then remembered, the description said, "no sharp edges". Sharp edges would most likely be on the inside of the can. When I got home, I grabbed the top of the can with my hand and pulled the lid off. It was open the entire time.Maybe the lid should have magnetically stuck to the can opener? But, no biggie. It's as if every can now has its own personal top. You don't have to touch it. Place the can opener on the lid, press the button and you will hear when it is done*. I like it.Press down*, make sure the lid is between the cutting surface of the device and push towards the OUTSIDE lip of the can. Press the button. You'll hear a clicking sound - The air is escaping the can. Let go. It will cut around the OUTSIDE underneath the lip. You can then pull the lid off. I'm sure there is some suction between the can and the lid. I don't expect the opener will always pull the lid off or if it will at all, but it's easy enough to do with your fingers and not get cut. Regardless. it takes the lid off! Hands-free! (It's not hard to use at all).My old handheld can opener is rusty and I bought freeze-dried food. Those cans are steel for longevity. I had to keep turning that knob. It was like a forearm workout. This is definitely easy and a good consideration for someone who has pain or difficulty. This will open cans like a champ. It's compact, and easy to store. It was heavier than I thought, so it's not cheaply made. I do not want an appliance sitting on my countertop that opens cans. It fits right in your kitchen drawer. (How long will the batteries last? How often do you open cans?) Thumbs up!

Going to give this the benefit of doubt as it is most likely a user-error. It will cut the can but I couldn't get it to align where I needed it too. Great concept!

A little louder than expected, but it works well. One button to start and stop makes it dummy proof. It cuts along the outside so there's no sharp edge to cut yourself with. Again, dummy proof. Takes standard batteries, which I prefer over a rechargeable device since most can't be used while charging, and changing batteries is faster mid-cook than stopping to recharge. Very happy with this for my kitchen and my mom's arthritic hands.
