I was looking for a book that would teach me how to make a pieced hexagon layout and circular/wedge designs to help me design quilts that I can use with odd shaped templates/rulers I have like my squedge ruler. this book was perfect for that

EQ8's Designing Quilts is a must-have book for learning the software. I've bought and studied two other EQ8 books, and it's the only way to get the most out of the software. However, I've just begun reading Designing Quilts, and ten pages in I'm rolling my eyes at the hard-sell, cheerleader-style voice of the first chapter. Each chapter is written by a different expert (yes, they do know their stuff), and Chapter 1 is written by Jo Moury. On every page so far, she squeals like a teenager about how "cool," "fun," and "neat" the software tools are. In the first four pages I've seen five exclamation points, and what passes for a sentence is "THIS. IS. FUN!!" The next page I see, "Is this cool, or what??? (Yes!!!)"Okay, the software is fun. Fun is why I quilt, and I love being able to fiddle with designing quilts without wasting materials. But I bought the book for tips and tricks and I'm an adult who can tell what's fun and what's not. The other books weren't like this, and I hope the other chapters in this book are less...perky. Just the facts, ma'am. Anything else is a waste of my time and reading energy.

I use this to audition ideas and design quilts. I started out with EQ5 and each new release has made my job easier. This one like most takes a little while to figure out all the new things it will do but they're making it easier and more intuitive.
