This is a handy item for controlling equipment that you want to have remember its "last state" in case of a power failure so that it comes back on if it was on when the power went off.

Works exactly as described. This is a mechanically latching relay. It contains two coils. Energizing one coils pulls a DPDT armature one way. Energizing the other coil pulls it the other way. No power is needed to “remember” its states.I am using it to keep track of whether an outdoor gate is opened or closed based on endstop hall-effect sensors. For this purpose it works perfectly.

So far so good. Occasional accidental lock trigger, but all things considered works well.

I used this on my RV's 5500W generator kill circuitry. I rebuilt the control system and added this to latch a ground to the twin cylinders' ignition coil kill wires which ground out the spark when you hit the off button. The two wires needed to be separated, and this latching relay did the trick. Additionally, now, when I hit the off button, I no longer need to hold it down and wait for the engine to die. Once latched, that's it. Easy to wire up, it's a small unit so it doesn't take up a lot of real estate, and it doesn't get warm since the only current that's used is when you're changing states of the relay.

This little latching relay has done the job three times on 3 separate applications. When 12VDC is applied to S it energizes in the NO condition and stays even if the DC is no longer applied. 12VDC to R energizes the relay in the NC position even if the DC is no longer applied. There is a definite click upon transition but very little if any contact bounce. I use it in one application to control an electrical contactor and in another to control an RF Switch. On the third, it sets an audio relay. Each time this latching relay worked reliably using momentary control signal.

Works okay just gets a little warm, don’t know if I’d bury in a project and trust it

I am using one of these to control a latching solenoid valve. The valve needs to have current supplied to turn on and then reverse current to turn it off. This double pole double throw relay is perfect for this. You connect positive 12 volts and then connect ground to s or r to switch the relay back and forth. It stays in whichever mode it is in until you ground the other connection and uses no power in between. The other two sets of three terminals are the two sides of the DPDT switch.Update: I had been wondering what would happen if both S and R were grounded at the same time. My concern was that it might harm the unit if both of my sensors (on and off) got triggered at the same time accidentally. It turns out that if this happens, one overrides the other as a default. This is very useful because it means you could leave one side permantly grounded and switch the relay back and forth with a single set of contacts on the other side. That makes it easy for a single sensor or switch to turn the relay on and off.
