My stock gasket isn’t dead, but I like to clean them well before pouring in oil. If I get sloppy dumping oil, I don’t need any debris from the gasket washing into the heads. That is a vulnerable spot as you’re adding oil directly to the top of the engine and not pre-filter.Having a spare allows me to swap before pouring, and then cleanup of the old one can happen once I’m done with the oil change. This isn’t an inexpensive replacement, but compared to replacement engine internals on an Audi it’s not an unreasonable investment.

Retired my old tired, loose fitting oil filler neck with this new one. Much tighter fit and once installed, unable to tell it from the 15 year old Audi A4 original rubber molding. Looking closely, the original Audi part does have a more finished appearance, but both function as designed with the new part providing a tighter and more secure fit on the upper cam cover.
