  • Best Testing Coverage --- With so many things that can be tested in your drinking water, it can be overwhelming and expensive to choose a lab test. Use this water quality meter to give you the direction in a tiered approach. It covers overall contaminant levels not only related to inorganic matters (TDS), but more importantly related to organic matters (pathogens, volatile organic compounds and home use chemicals). It is the first and so far only consumer device in the market with instant testing on organic contamination..
  • More important than a TDS meter --- TOC (Total Organic Carbon) and COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) reflect the pollution of organic matter in drinking water, including natural organic like algae, pathogens, or other microbiological contaminants, as well as synthetic or volatile organic (SOC / VOC) like home/garden use chemicals or THMS. TOC reacts with chlorine and forms carcinogenic disinfection byproducts (DBP). Know and control TOC prior to chlorination of your well water.
  • Instant lab grade readings --- TOC and COD readings used to require testing in a professional lab or by expensive water quality analyzer. With the innovative UV spectral technology, you can use this water quality meter and get the lab grade readings in seconds without the expensive and inconvenient water quality test.
  • Companion to any water filter systems --- This water quality meter is a great companion to any water filter systems to give you the unmistaken water quality change before and after the use of a water filter system, replacement of water filter cartridges, or the effects of using a new water filter pitcher or dispenser. It can also be used to check biofouling of your RO system.
  • Anywhere water quality assurance --- With its pocket size and intuitive design, you can take the water quality meter to anywhere you want to check the drinking water quality. This can be used by water professionals as the screening devices. It can also be taken to an expedition where drinking water may be from a clear river or lake. Recalibrate it with distilled water. AVOID BUBBLE ON THE PROBE HEAD IN BOTH CALIBRATION AND TESTING, BY SHAKING THE TESTER GENTLY WHILE THE HEAD IS IN SAMPLE WATER.

Total Organic Carbon (TOC)

Total Organic Carbon (TOC) is a measurement of the total amount of carbon in organic compounds. TOC in source waters comes from decaying natural organic matter like microorganisms as well as synthetic sources like pesticides or chemical run-offs. It includes both Purgeable Organic Carbon (also called VOC, Volatile Organic Carbon) and Non-purgeable Organic Carbon.

Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD)

Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) is an indicative measure of the amount of oxygen that can be consumed by oxidizable compounds in water. It is used in quantifying the presence of such oxidizable compounds. Organic compounds are oxidizable, as such COD is usually correlated to TOC. It can also diverge to a higher reading due to oxidizable inorganic contaminants like ammonia, or nitrite etc.

Common contaminants covered by TOC and COD

  • Microorganisms (crypto, coliform, E. Coli, bacteria, virus, etc.)
  • Organic Chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, insectcides, SOC, volatile organic compounds, etc.)
  • Disinfection Byproduct (organic compound like THMs)
  • Oxidizable Inorganic Compounds (ammonia, nitrite, sulfide, ferrous iron, chloride, etc.)
First line defense

First line defense

A speedy and convenient way of determining the degree of overall organic, oxidable and dissolved contamination.

  • Cover all organic areas of a typical testing report (microbes, SOC and VOC) with TOC and COD, and inorganic salt level with TDS. Enable tiered approach for additional testing if necessary;
  • Detect in real time and all the time;
  • Revolving display of all four indicators;
  • Colored LED light to indicate water quality for peace of mind (blue, orange, red);
  • Take it anywhere you want to test the water quality.

Best filter system companion

RO system

Performance and maintenance

With all three readings well related and covering different areas of contamination concerns, performance of a RO or other filter system is unmistaken and manifested. Comparison becomes easy. It also helps to identify time and circumstance of filter change or other maintenance.

Filtered Water

Beyond TDS

TDS has been widely used as the indicator for RO system performance, which brings both confirmation and controversy, as TDS is not strictly a contaminant indicator. Together with TOC, the health benefits of a RO system and other filter systems should no longer be controversial.

RO membrane

Biofouling

Fouling on RO membrane or activated carbon block filter is not always reflected on TDS reading. Biofouling is less understood but dominant resulting from bacteria growth on RO membrance or carbon filters. TOC is the powerful tool to monitor and capture biofouling.

FAQ

I get readings that are apparently wrong.

If there is even tiny bubbles attached to the detector head, it will create error in reading. To avoid it, every time you put the meter in a water sample, hold and shake it slightly to remove all the bubbles.

Readings on the same water sample are all over the places and apparently wrong.

This is caused mainly by bubbles attached to the probe head at time of calibration. Recalibration will most likely resolve the issue.

Is this water proof?

The sensor head is water proof, but not the entire body. Please only immerse the head of the meter into water sample. Water should never get to the power/test key level. You can also use the cap as water sample holder.

Which way should I insert the battery?

Please note that the positive side of the battery should be pointing OUT.

I am very impressed as of course I had to go get some distilled water to set it with the first time you use it and then I checked my well water against my Osmosis System water and very interesting readings that seems like they would be definitely correct I will be using this in the future for sure to test all water that goes into my body thank you

I have used a few standard tds meters in the past ,so I am not new to this . If you let the water boil and cool you will read a different TOC level than just cold tap water. I have tried this on two different water sources (well in Lodi township michigan) and (Chity) in town water in saline mi . The Chity water TOC was about double the well water 160 well 300 city. On top of that I use a pure water mini classic ct water distiller to purify all my water , what was left in the bottom of the distiller was unbelievable because of the (chity) water thats been made drinkable by the people who care about us .

This is the second one. The first one did not give me any readings "000" no mater what I did so I figured it was defective. I re-ordered a replacement one and to my surprise it had the same problem as the first one. I calibrated the unit no problem got "C-8" screen then the "SUC" message that it was calibrated and ready to go. But no matter what I tried the dreaded "000" display kept displaying and auto shutdown after 1 min which is normal. I though to myself what are the odds of both units portraying the same issue?!! wound up that when you do the calibrate you only push the power button 3 times. So I figured after you turn the unit off "holding the power button for 5 seconds" I'd turn the unit on and try to take a reading and got the "000" screen what you need to do IS : turn the unit on , put the unit into what ever water you are testing shake the unit lightly so there are no bubbles on the main head of the unit THEN push the button again. you will now see the display read "---" and you will get the water reading. I guess I was having a Senior moment, hope this helps

Will not do anything beyond powering up. Continually gives "no sample" error no matter what I use (distilled, tap, or well water I KNOW has high TDS). 'Instructions' are seriously lacking in any kind of useful troubleshooting info. This is going back in the box today!

Feels well made and like the lithium rechargeable battery, but I can't get the calibration process to run without failing. Regardless the TDS value seems reasonable. That was the main reason I bought it. It reports TOC and COD but not sure how since everthing I read says these are complicated tests requiring chemical reagents and take hours for the results!

We had a lot of water issue after we moved into the current house which operated on well water. The well water quality was never consistent. One time there was E-coli detected in the water. We ended up having a water purification system installed along with UV disinfection and reverse osmosis. To ensure consistency of the treated water quality, we had to hire someone to collect and test water sample from time to time. It was very troublesome and costly. We tried a pocket tester but it only gave us ppm reading with no indication of any organic compounds. Finally, we came across Aquav 3-in-1 on Amazon and decided to give it a try. We were so glad that it actually read TOC and COD values in addition to ppm. By the way, Total Organic Carbon (TOC) is a measure of organic carbon found in a sample whereas Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) measures amount of O2 that can be consumed by reactions to determine both organic and inorganic substances in a sample. The product was super easy to use. We did not even have to calibrate it. To ensure its accuracy, we had the guy who tested our water come back and compared our reading to his. The result was stunningly accurate. Now we finally get our peace of mind as we enjoy our precious clean water. Highly recommend!
