I expect a lot from Estwing. Just didn't look like their normal quality. Had some runs in the black paint. Finish just did not look like quality had orange peeled looking finish. I buy Estwing because they are made in the USA. Ironically the sheath is marked made in Taiwan?? I would gladly pay more for a sheath made in the USA! Make the sheath with some quality! A nice leather sheath should be at least an option. Come on Estwing just do it right...

Works great, right out of the package if needed. It doesn’t hurt though, to make sure that the sharpness of both blades, axe bit and gut hook, meets your specs.

great product I have used this on 3 deer so far splits the pelvic bone quickly.

An excellently balanced work tool for forest life. The bit was fairly sharp but burred. A few moments on the included stone and all was well.The gut hook was not as sharp as the bit. Normally bladed gut hooks are razor sharp but this one is more of a novelty until sharpened. But for general tasks, it works fine as is.I really like the grip on the handle. Unlike the traditional Estwing leather washer grips, this one works well wet or dry. And the orange is a nice touch. I prefer bright colors in the woods.The hole in the hatchet head lightens the swing weight which in this case is a good thing.This axe head is one thickness compared to the normal wedge shape of axes. This limits its wood splitting, but works great for shaving and minor chopping.Haven't split open an elk with it, but compared other game management tools, this Estwing Hunters Axe should have no trouble with the tasks for which it was assigned.
