I bought this for my students last spring and when I connect it all together the battery holder melts where the coil is. Making it a worthless piece. Now I need to find a better solution to supply power to the dc motor. My intention was so students could build cars. I couldn't find any gears that fit it, so I bought the wind turbine attachment and it doesn't make it move at all! Sad I wasted my hard earned money!

I really appreciated the fact that the motors already had wires soldered onto the connectors! As some had mentioned, they break-off fairly easy (thanks to all that left those comments!) so I hot-glued the wires down onto the motor body so that the wires did not move at all. Hopefully, that will do the trick... so far, so good! The on/off switches are fabulous...If anything, I wish the wires were soldered on in the opposite direction which would make securing the wires with hot-glue or masking tape much easier!

Used the motors in the classroom for a STEM challenge. The motor itself was great and was just the amount of strength needed for the project. However, the leads on 28 of the motors detached within the first class period. A few of the metal pieces, where the leads were attached, broke off making them inoperable. As a teacher, paying out of pocket for supplies, I was hoping to be able to use these throughout the year, or multiple years, for more projects without having to purchase a new set. I would suggest purchasing the set of motors without leads attached (to prevent the metal pieces from breaking) or look for something more durable that could last longer.

My students had a great time engineering with these. However, make sure you keep a soldering iron in hand if working with rough middle schoolers as the wires come off the motors fairly easily.

Used these to make wiggle bots with our Girl Scout troop today and they worked great! You must follow the wiring diagram to ensure that they work properly and do not overheat causing damage to the components. We checked each girls set-up before giving them batteries to ensure that this was not an issue. If we have the need again, we will definitely buy these.

I bought these for a Cub Scout Adventure on Robotics, and thought they would be perfect...but was wrong. The motor and battery pack are quick to put together and the on/off toggle switch was great, and the wires were easy to strip. BUT the battery packs were quick to melt around the area where the coil and wire meet, and then set-up was useless -- and this was after only a few minutes of use. I had this happen to two of them that I put together as examples of a WobbleBot for the Scouts. I tried to wrap the battery packs in electrical tape to keep the parts working, but it didn't work. These are not that cheap, so I would expect more...but perhaps opt for a more expensive brand/set if you want it to last more than a couple of minutes.

My elementary (kinder-5th grade) classes used these to make "Drawing Bots". So far, I have used 30 of the 90 I ordered... all motors and battery packs have worked well. I melted one battery pack by not connecting my wiring circuit correct :/ If you are using them for elementary or middle school students, I would suggest the precaution of taping the motor wires at the soldered connections before giving them to the students. The soldered connection and small wire diameter makes them fragile, but by wrapping them first with electric tape, we alleviated any 'pulled-loose' wires (see attached photo). After needing to re-connect a couple of wires that the boys pulled off, I decided to tape the wires before the next younger class came in... worked great... no problems! I am completely satisfied with this purchase and will order again!
