The charcoal block has worked fine for me. For all the people leaving bad ratings, do you know you are supposed to wrap steel wire around it to keep it from breaking and falling into pieces? Check out YouTube videos.

I got this because I needed something for my jewelry soldering that didn't absorb heat. This certainly fits the bill. Soldering takes less time than it did. One recommendation: Bind it with some stainless steel wire so that it doesn't split on you. Even if it does, its still usable with the wire in place.

This brick fell apart into two pieces lucky I was able to use the halves since my work is small. Would not buy this again.

Was cracked in half and I needed to solder so I used it. Crumbled and threw away. Don't bother with this.

This is the best soldering surface I have ever used. It holds the heat and makes soldering easier and quicker. I recommend that you bind the block with iron wire to prevent cracking.
