Sounded like a good thing. There seems to be no way to download the software required to set it up and download data.Instructions say go to echtec.com to download. That takes you to the teledyne flir site.No software downloads for software. Ti did find the same user guide that came with it.I joined the site to register product but they can't find it by model or serial number.I will update this review if I find the software.I spent 2 hours looking for the software after I created an account. Searched all categories and by model and serial number. No luck. I returned it to Amazon.

Works well. Software is clunky and PC-only

Worked perfectly for my needs. Easy to operate and the data appears to be good. I used it to record temperatures in my car on a cold day in MN over a 24 hour period. I haven't used it for other purposes.

If you can't install the software,,,,,. Can't complete install because it can't find a file.Included cardboard says User's Manual located between insert packaging. It is not! Then, when you find a manual on the internet, it includes no phone number to call for help.My computer runs Win 7 64-bit. included disk V 5.0 says XP, Vista, Win7 32/64-bit.Update: I emailed support@extech.com. Steve replied quickly and had me download another (fixed) V5.0 from the Extech site. That fixed the install problem. If you need help you might try planetextech.com also. Logger is working fine now,,,,but sure could have done without the earlier (yesterday) frustration.Update: Used it about two days and realized I was looking at sticky bits (all data between 89.4 F and 97.5 F logged as 97.5 F, all data between 80.4 F and 76.8 F logged as 76.8 F). This condition makes the logger almost unusable. Extech support said all returns within 30 days handled by the vendor (they didn't offer to send me a good logger). So, Thanks Amazon!!!! you processed a return very quickly and simply. No more Extech for me. Oh yeah, soon as I processed the return, the green LED stopped working.

Even with all the software and Firmware updates for this datalogger, this still was not able to connect to a Windows 7 64-bit computer.Never did get it to work even after following all the instructions on the manufacturer website and tips n' tricks from various users forums. If you have a Windows 7 64-bit PC, DO NOT BUYIf you have Windows XP, is supposedly works rather well.

This unit came with the latest software and was completly plug-and-play with regard to insallation on a Windows 7 Pro PC.The only thing missing/incorrect was that the packaging stated that the User's Manual was located between insert packaging. There was no manual in the packaging but the mini-cd software disk had the manual on it in pdf form.

We bought four of these at once. One was DOA (defective) and Amazon promptly issued an RMA and a promised credit. For the three that worked perfectly, we're very happy. We're using these to verify temps in our commercial office building. We're tracking temps in our server room and individual offices. Each unit arrived in a plastic package that appeared to require scissors to open, but, thankfully, opened easily with fingers. Contents included the device itself, a clear plastic cover for the USB end of the device (it also covers and protects the activation button), Lithium Ion battery, mounting clip/holster, screws for the clip/holster and a mini-CD for the software. One note: don't install the software on the mini-CD that comes in the packaging. Go to [...] and download the latest version from their web site. The CD contained v2.0 while the web site had v5.0.We installed the software on Windows 7 32-bit, Windows XP Pro and Server 2003. All worked fine. We configured the devices and deployed them for several days. Make sure you set C or F for temp as the software (amazingly) cannot convert once it's logged. You can configure them to start recording as soon as they are configured or wait for the button to be pushed. These units are detached from the PC's USB port after configuration and can be placed or mounted where ever you wish. One was taken home for the weekend and started once it was there. We easily downloaded the logged temps and displayed charts for analysis. We've only had them a week and find them valuable. Our only wish list item at this time would be the ability to overlay multiple charts to compare multiple loggers on the same chart, but that's a minor issue. For the price, these are an amazingly good value.

The temperature logger works as advertised and the data seems accurate. The price compares well with other USB temperature logging solution. However the supplied driver only runs on windows XP but then I didn't try that hard to make it run on windows 7. The software's user interface needs updating. It looks and feels like software from early 90s. I found the CSV export feature disappointing as the data needs editing and formatting before I could do any effective analysis.I would prefer an interface in which the logger just behaves like a flash memory card with a single CSV files containing the temperature log, simple and effective. No software beyond a spreadsheet program required. I ended up analyzing temperature data in a spreadsheet anyway.
