Bellafina made a large viola with heavy strings which they marketed as a Chin Cello. I've never been quite happy with mine. The bottom 2 strings on it were too light and too soft to stay in tune as the bow pressed on the strings. I decided to try putting some short cello strings on it and tuning it an octave below a violin, instead of cello ptich. These 1/4 scale cello strings were just right for this purpose. And because they are steel strings, they take the bow pressure better than synthetic strings. The wrappings on these strings are smooth and grip the bow well. The tone is loud and uniform but with a bit of the harsh edge that steel strings sometimes have.

Price is right. G string was very scratchy and unusable.Easy to get a sound, but tone quality not mellow.Good for a beginner.
