  • AS5048 also has a very high operating tolerance, including the deviation of the center position between the chip and the paired magnet, the deviation of the air gap between the chip and the paired magnet, and the temperature change between -40°C and +150.
  • AS5048 is a 14-bit rotary position sensor (formerly called encoder) for absolute angle measurement and PWM (= pulse width modulation) at 360 degree based on non-contact magnetic sensor technology full-rotation output.
  • The device is suitable for shaft applications where a simple two-pole magnet rotates the sensor IC above or below and the 0 position can be programmed into the device with simple SPI commands. The absolute magnetic angular position resolution is 14 bits.
  • AS5048 provides PWM output and SPI or I2C interface to provide absolute angle measurement for the microcontroller. In the mechanical designing, there is no need to consider the exact pairing of the initial 0 position of the chip and the magnetic poles of.

Included cord only supports PWM output, the SPI functionality requires soldering onto very fine pads.Pinouts have to be discovered by comparing the datasheet of the chip against the breakout board with a meter as there is no documentation and the traces aren't very visible. There is also no magnet included.These would be no more than a minor inconvenience, but thing that made them unusable for me was despite being extremely careful with the soldering, nearly every circuit trace tore right off with no more than the weight of a small wire

This product is largely unusable. There are no leads on it so if you want to use the spi interface you have to solder tiny wires on to impossibly tiny pads. Not convenient or practical

Does it's thing (measure rotation), but this appears to only have SPI bus, despite saying "SPI or I2C" in the descriptions. This is in fact referring to the AS5048B, and not the AS5048A (which is the chip they they are shipping).

Need to use this with a diametrically polarized magnet on the motor shaft or rotor. I got one through Digikey from Radial Magnets and it works great!
