I was using this for a small aquarium of mine in order to circulate water. The power and flow was surprisingly strong for such a small pump which was great. The downside is the bad build quality. Three of the five pumps I received started to break down within 1-4 days of use. The seal on the unit that keeps water out of the motor housing started to leak and some clear oil started to leak out into the water accompanied by a strong smell of plastic and oil. I suspect the unit wore through whatever seal was used to keep the water out due to friction and heat, leading to leakage of oil from the motor spilling out into the water. It's a shame as the small size of the pump and the strength it provided were exactly what I wanted, but the unit's quality and durability were really a let down.

FainWan 5PCS Ultra-Quiet Mini DC 3-6V 120L/H Brushless Motor Submersible Water Pump, these things are perfect for using as continuous bildge pumps for my rc boats. Super easy to wire directly to your receiver or to a switch as well. These can run dry, can’t complain about the price either.

In looking at how these were made, I had my doubts about how well they would pump water. I was pleasantly surprised when I tested one and found that it pumps quite well. It just has an impeller with 3 straight blades on it that spins and takes water in perpendicular to the impeller and shoots it out the side of the impeller. It works both when the motor is running forwards and backwards, but with less flow when run backwards. And to be clear, in both cases it takes water in the inlet and spits it out the outlet - it can not be used to drive water from the outlet to the inlet. The motor whines a little when pumping, I would not call these super quiet. If mounted in an enclosure or something that could tame the noise a little, and they are quieter when running in water as opposed to free running in air.I tested these with a hose that was about 3 feet long, and due to the way I had it run I was only able to get about 2.5 feet of height, but it worked well at that height and would have been able to pump to a higher head height, so that is impressive. As for amount of water, I didn't measure it, but it was a reasonable flow. I was running it at 3.7 Volts, 6 Volts is its max rating so it would presumably pump more water to a higher height at that voltage. The description says these motors are brushless - I can't confirm that as the motor itself is sealed, but I have suspicions that these may be brushed motors but I am unable to confirm either way. I suppose there are ways to confirm by turning the motor and scoping the power leads, I didn't try that as I wasn't that motivated but just keep in mind that claim is unverified.

First, lets correct some of the discrepancies in the listing to what the product actually is.Format: Listed as / ActualColor: Black / White (as pictured)Power source: AC or DC / DCWith that out of the way, I ran a test on the pump. The test was conducted unloaded (dry, not pumping water). Power was obtained from a benchtop DC power supply operating in constant voltage mode. I started at 3v (as the listing appears) and stepped up the voltage by 1mV aiming for about a 1V/minute rate of change, pausing in 1V increments to record current draw. At 6V I stopped raising voltage and let the pump run for 15 minutes without touching it, for a total test time of approximately 18 minutes.3v-72ma4v-80ma5v-86ma6v-92ma (Start 15 minute run)6v-76ma (End 15 minute run)The noise the pump makes increases with the input voltage. After reaching 6V, the pump began making oscillating noises, and was fairly loud with some mechanical rubbing noises, but continued to run. After this test, I connected a different pump to the benchtop power supply to test until failure. Starting at 6V, I slowly raised the input voltage on the power supply. After reaching approximately 12V, signficant fluctuations in current were observed. This continued until the power supply maxed out at 31V (about 10 minutes into the test). I stopped raising voltage and let the pump run and observed some sparking from within the case housing, but otherwise normal function. The pump was very hot by the end of this test, but still functional and managed several restarts at an input voltage of 31V and down to just 1V (again, unloaded running dry).I didn't run much in the way of testing the actual pumping capability of these other than dropping them in a glass of water. They move water just fine.My only complaint about these pumps is that the wires are very thin stranded wires with tinned ends.Overall, these are relatively hardy pumps with good motors in them. The only place I see room for improvement on would be the wires leading off the motor which are a bit thin for this application.

These pumps are very easy to use and setup. Inexpensive for the price they are being sold for. Just be mindful of the input voltage. They can get burnt easily!!!

Do not use 9V. Use 2.5V - 6V.
