This is NOT a "just a Squire with a fender sticker" like some semi-clever geek has commented on almost every video review of the new Standard line on YT.I have been a beginner for years. I learn music by tabs. I don't have any real training. I have bought many (over 11) low to mid level bass guitars. My most expensive is in the $400 range. My first jazz was a Squire Affinity I bought around a year ago. I really took to the jazz style of bass. Now that my qualifications are known here is what I know:Everything felt like it was meant to feel that way. Solid and purposeful is the way I would describe it. The ease of playing on the stock strings remind me of playing an ultralight set. (40-95)It was almost fully tuned right out of the box. Just a few turns and it was ready. I did not do anything special other than the tuning. The reason being is I have never seen a sustain length like it had. My little fender tuner stayed green for longer than I was comfortable with. I had upgraded the squire with a high mass bridge, and it has about 3/4 of the note sustain length.Even my wife, who always said, "They all sound the same." noticed the tonal difference. There is a very noticeable tone and playability difference between the Squire Affinity jazz and this.I highly recommend this bass if you are an experienced beginner deciding to step up a level and start really learning, or if you just want a "way better than entry quality" bass with a reasonable price tag.The only down side is the bridge and neck pickup volumes need to be equal to prevent buzzing. A quick internet search told me it is a quirk of the J style.
