I am a contractor and I do a lot of remodels. Removing wallpaper is one of my least favorite jobs. This tool makes the process of perforating the wallpaper a lot quicker and easier, but it does take some getting used to. It covers a lot of area really fast. Surprisingly, it gets closer to corners and trim than traditional palm sized tools. It is easy to use and does not leave me with aching wrists and shoulders. The only drawback is that on uneven walls, it does not easily get into the low spots and may dig in a little deeper on a high spót. The first time you use it, make sure you set it to the minimum depth or you will perforate the wall underneath as well like I did. It's blades make easy work of most wallpaper. The price seemed high to me at first, but it saves me so much time. Definitely worth it if you have to remove a lot of wallpaper.

I bought this tool because I bought a house with wallpaper in just about every room, and needed a faster and less fatiguing tool than the palm scoring tool. After reading reviews that lauded its ability to out perform most, I bought it. If anybody actually used this tool and have rated it high, I must have received a different version. I am now back to using the more reliable palm scoring tool that cost a fraction of what I just paid, and it performs much better than this product.

If you have a serious wallpaper problem, this is what you need. I'm shredding through four layers of ancient, thick wallpaper and hitting it with piping hot water after. While still a ton of work it's all coming down quite easily.

This thing looks like it would tear a wall to shreds, but that was not my experience. it was very difficult to perforate my wallpaper, and i had to grind it sideways to literally tear rips into the wallpaper, and not just perforated holes.to be fair, i used it on very old, thick wallpaper, with multiple layers. There was plaster on the wall beneath. I suppose its possible that modern wallpaper on drywall or something would perforate much easier than the wallpaper in my house, which was built in the 1890. It got the job done, but the tool did not make the work easy. Also, it has not broken yet. I went through a handful of those palm sized perforators (plastic components always snapped without fail), before I bought this thing. The fact that it has a long handle allows you to use your weight as leverage, and is much more ergonomic. This is the best perforator i have ever used, but I am just not impressed with the entire industry.

I'm a remodeling contractor. We had a large job where we had to remove wall paper from every room in the house - Even the ceilings had wallpaper on them! We started out with a cat's paw and while it worked,it was taking way too much time and physical labor to get the paper perforated. With the Festool Fakier, the time factor was cut by more than half and the effort wasn't nearly as hard as the cat's paw. The product is well made and did a great job of scoring the wallpaper so the release agent was able to penetrate and dissolve the glue holding the paper on the wall. With the Festool Fakier, you can adjust the depth of penetration with a small knob. The blades are extremely sharp (don't set it working side down on a hardwood floor - ask me how I know). We were able to score the wallpaper in a 14x18 room with 9' ceilings in about 20 minutes. Using a cat's paw was taking an hour or more and none of the guys could work a cat's paw for more than 20 minutes at a time. With this tool, we had one guy do all of the walls and ceilings in every room in less than 4 hours. It saved me money and wear and tear on my people. I would definitely purchase if you have more than 1 room to strip.

How is this wallpaper scoring tool different from a $5.00 cat's paw from The Depot? This one costs $140 more. Amazon's description says "Remove single or multiple layers of wallpaper with ease", which is misleading. This tool will score wallpaper only, not remove it. As with all German tools, it is solidly built and will probably never break. I will keep it because the circular motion of a cat's paw is very hard on my shoulder as compared to the easy up-and-down motion of this thing. For what this costs, you can buy a powered sander/vacuum combo which will actually remove wallpaper.
