Just getting into ice fishing and this reel is perfect. Good quality and smooth. I would highly suggest this reel if looking for a quality setup.

Dose not work. Just took this reel out for the first time this year. it skips when you catch a fish, and was unable to reel in.The square shaft does not hold the spool in and it jumps on the square shaft.Do not waist your money on this if your a good fisherman, this is not quality product.Would like this replaced and maybe with one that works properly.

I like the smooth action, the good looks and it seems to be a good quality reel. I am looking forward to use this next winter.

Did I need one chromed in gold, no. But I got one anyway. My only disapointment was the handles. I specifically ordered it because it had cork handles. It has cork handles but they are clear coated with some kind of plastic. I know it sounds a little snobby but I wanted the cork. I know it will absorb water, fish slime, worm guts and it will eventually stink but I like the tactile sensation of touching cork more than plastic. Otherwise this thing works great. Drag is super fast and easy to adjust for big fish and it hold about 100 miles of 4lb test line which is my preferred ice fishing line. If I get a knot or tangle I just cut off 30 or 40 yds and start fresh.

Paired this awesome looking gold reel up with a jig-a-whopper signature series rod to create a classic Chris Craft look. Once user positions and gets the feel for the line tensioner (depending on the weight of the jig/lure), the reel is smooth in operation. Drag works great. Have caught bluegills, crappie, Bass, walleye, and northern pike with it so far.

I purchased this reel on the recommendation of a friend who was currently using one. The reel itself is nice and appears to be well constructed however, it has a flaw. The tension adjustment that controls the rate of freefall does not work. Basically it is a threaded shaft that when screwed in, is supposed to provide friction against the back of the spool, thus proving a friction adjustment. Either the shaft is too short or there is a part missing that should go on the end of the shaft. I contacted customer service and after providing proof of purchase, they sent me with a new reel free of charge. The new reel exhibits the same problem. The reel is functional if the spool is "fingered" to provide friction control or as in my case, I cut a piece of small diameter rigid plastic tubing and put it on the end of the shaft to effectively extend it.

I didn't get a choice of right/left so I assumed it was interchangeable. It isn't and they sent a right without asking. I would have preferred left. But the main problem with mine is the free wheel tension knob doesn't work. It isn't touching the spool at all and results in a tangled mess when even tiny jigs hit bottom. The spool free falls so fast. After using it on the ice, I want to upgrade my review. The free fall was great in getting back down and I didn't once get a birds nest. I should have sent it back and got a left handed one. But it works good. And is fun to use.

I just received this reel and set it up, so I will update after I use it here in about 2 weeks. All of the parts are nice and tight and it seems well constructed. I wound 75' of 6# monofilament to allow for cutoffs and there is space for at least 200'+ without overfilling the reel. The drag release was very smooth (there should be no problem with free-fall even with minimal weight) and the one-way clutch engaged after about a quarter-turn of the crank. The inner diameter of the reel measures 1 3/4" (1.75") so at a gear ratio of 2.7:1, we end up with approximately (just shy) 15" of retrieval per 360 degree turn of the crank (notably this changes slightly depending on how full the reel is), meaning for every 12 turns you are putting on just shy of 15' of line.I can't wait to test this out against my other 2 new Inlines: 13 Fishing Black Betty, and Eagle Claw.
