When you use it, put it in an impact drill. Works great.

I’m paying this works well, but on a hardwood like oak, it just wants to spend the entire log once it grabs even though I stand on it.

I tried this with three different drill, all cordless. None of them could drive this far enough to split the wood. One of the drills is a beefy high-torque Makita drill with a side handle. No joy! Then you can’t back the drill out because the shank will simply unscrew from the cone bit head, so you have to rock it until you can pull it out. If you have a beefy corded drill this might work, but that means you have to take the unsplit wood near enough to a power source.

The impression is that it works like butter with any drill. I found this not to be the case. My dwalt drill struggled.

Easily the worst product I've ever bought through Amazon. It bores about a half-inch into ordinary firewood (of the kinds the ad specifically claims it will split), then gets stuck so firmly you can't even reverse it out. If you don't want to burn out your drill motor, which would be pointless with this thing anyway, you have to manually wobble it out.Amazon should not even have this lemon in its catalog.

I watched the video (which is why I bought it) I opened the box setup the bit, grabbed my Dewalt with a fresh battery and looked for a log.On my first go the bit dug into the log like a drill bit and got stuck. Due to how the bit is designed you cannot back out. So I forged on and in doing so the bit logged itself into the log and whipped it out of my hand and swung the log right into my ankle.I hobbled to another log after a brief break from swearing obscenities. The next log did the same.Unless my wood is from Krypton I have no idea how this could have gone wrong. I am cooling my temper with a beer and a bag of ice for my ankle.

I put the small log (5" diameter) on the ground, steadying it between my feet and legs, put the tip of the bit on top of the log, turned on the drill, and that piece of wood spun around like a lopsided top. Maybe I could have restrained the log in a vice, but just glad I wasn't injured. The drill bit is now at home in the landfill.
