The rotating cutting mat I’ve owned for years has served me well, but sometimes it’s more surface than I need. This smaller one is so convenient right next to my sewing machine. All the major cutting is on the cutting table. If making larger blocks, those are often trimmed on the large rotating mat. But what about HSTs (depending on size), I’m more apt to need a little rotating mat for trimming. I love this thing! It’s going with me on a quilt retreat next month! along with a mini-iron.

This 8 inch rotating cutting mat is perfect for squaring up small quilt blocks. I use it mostly for half square triangles and curved pieces I've made with the Mini Quick Curve Ruler. The mat fits right beside my sewing machine.

This mat works great for squaring up my blocks and half square triangles. I have a larger one which is nice, but this one takes up much less room and you can't go wrong with Fiskars.

As a quilter I find this invaluable for cutting and trimming small pieces of fabric and cutting pieced blocks down to size. It is so easy to transport. I use a 28 mm rotary cutter, although larger work fine.. I especially like the rotating quality for holding the fabric steady and spining the mat for those last 2 cuts which typically shift while begin moved. That does not happen with this mat. I used on often for 8 years before the center was rendered unusable because of the many grooves from so much cutting. There were well over 1000 pieces, each with at least 2 cuts, many with 4 cuts.

Nothing's worse than trying to do accurate rotary cutting when you have to shift things around constantly so you're not back hand cutting. I can't do much of that anymore because of my arthritis and carpal tunnel, I had heard everyone talk up the rotating mats and decided to get one. I'm glad I did.This thing is fantastic. It's rigid so there's no worry of it dipping when you apply pressure and it rotates beautifully. Not only do my hands appreciate that I no longer back hand cut, but the accuracy of my cutting has improved by 100%.I love my mat and will be getting the bigger one as soon as I can. If you're on the fence, just jump over and hit the buy button, you won't be disappointed the very first time you use it, I promise.

Great for small cutting projects - I mainly use mine for quilting projects. I have the larger rotating cutting board but wanted something smaller to take to Our Quilty Pleasures sessions. Easy to pack, easy to use and good quality too.

I use for quilt block piecework -- cutting and trimming small items accurately. Note that this is 8 x 8" edge to edge; actual markings are 6 x 6 on a usable space of 7 inches square. The 1/8th inch marks are annoyingly identical, so quick reference to the half- and quarter-inch intervals is absent at the edges. (Same on the 14" model.) Still, I expect to get good use from this mat while improving my couch-potato productivity.
