I adore the pattern but it is only one sided. The part you hold is made of wood that is dyed it is quite weak and one of the wooden parts was broken/ had a crack in it. At first it is like stuck together but once unstuck opens well. Fans well

This is an adorable fan. I bought it to keep in my purse for those times when I'm out in the sun and hot. I kept the plastic packaging that came with the fan so that it won't get damaged inside my purse. It seems a bit fragile, so I would not trust putting it in my bag without some type of protection around it. It's really pretty, and I think that I got a great deal.

I have carried a paper fan for years to cool myself when it's hot, but they always wore out or tore after light use over time. I decided to try out some silk fans to see if they lasted longer. This is good looking and seems quite sturdy. I also purchased another silk fan from Dawning View, and that fan was of very similar build and quality to this one, but at four times the price. The Dawning view fan also came with a tassel and sheath, which this one did not. Frankly, I find the tassel kind of gets in the way when using the fan. It is nice to have a sheath to protect the fan when I toss it in a bag with other stuff, but it isn't worth four times the price to get one. I made a fabric sheath for this fan in about 10 minutes from some scrap fabric, and it works fine.I've been carrying this fan around for several weeks now, and it is nicer and yet lighter than my old paper fans. I would definitely purchase this fan again, both for myself and for gifts.

I bought it when it was priced very cheap but after I used it, I felt it's worth it even with the regular price. From what I can see, it's made sturdy enough as far as the materials allow it to be. A product like this, always requires some care for the handling, and if you abuse it more than you should, it'll break. There was no defects of craftsmanship. If I choose to nitpick, last 3 or 4 planks need to be pushed in manually one by one when I fold it. When I open it, all the pleats open up without hesitation. The dimension of the product, 8.5" long when it's folded and 15" wide when it's opened. It's a good compromise of portability and the functionality. Some may feel it too small for the amount of air it moves(good enough for me) but anything bigger, it'll sacrifice the compactness. I wouldn't mind trying out larger size when I get a chance. The material is made of plastic but looks like painted bamboo. For the environmental concern, I'd prefer natural material but for the functionality, the plastic maybe better. What kind of material the cloth is made of is unknown. It could be really silk, could be nylon or polyester. Unless you heat it and see the result, you won't find out and you don't need to know. The graphic is pretty much what you can see in the sample photo and being described. I think it's pretty classy and elegant. It's good enough just for the purpose of decorating the wall.*update*(7-22-13)Another reviewer Opal suggests my view observation on the material is wrong and that it's made of real wood. He said he even heated it up for the proof. It's expected that he will upload the photos very soon. It's not a big deal to me what material as long as it works but it seems very important to him. He feels he was cheated even if the material is better suited for the purpose.Look forward to see his photos in the gallery very soon.*update*(8-18-13)Is it made of bamboo or plastic? Another reviewer Opal thinks it's bamboo. My test shows otherwise.I posted a photo of melted plastic in the gallery.Let's see if Opal uploads the picture of her own test result.I doubt it.

so it seems like i had to wait forever for it to arrive (i've been spoiled by prime shipping) but when it got here I had kinda forgotten about it and it was a nice surprise. In actuality it was 2 weeks from my amazon cart to my mailbox. The fan comes in a pretty midnight blue gift box with a silver ribbon detail. The design on the fabric is pretty and the hand held part is made from a thin wood. Feels pretty sturdy for now, and moves a decent amount of air. I've only had in about an hour so... This is my second hand fan. They are fun, useful, beautiful, but not really made to last. If the fan lasts through moderate use and purse abuse about 8 months I'll come back and change it to a five star review. it would have received 5 stars right off the back if it had been a little cheaper. Time will tell if the money was a five star worthy investment.
