I guess it’s a matter of opinion but I think there is too much going on here. I ended up just leaving it assembled and will probably honestly get used for gardening/potting/planting etc… it is super cool in general though.

If you’re familiar with the military design/issue folding shovel, this is very different and, frankly, a much better, more versatile tool. My first impression was how small the disassembled parts were. When I first saw the box, I couldn’t believe it contained a shovel. However, once fully assembled, it’s every bit as big as its predecessors. The shovel comes in three main pieces: The main handle with shovel blade attached, and two handle extenders, one or both of which can be used to create a handle length that is easy to use and give you the leverage you need for the job. Here are a few of the features I really like: There’s saw teeth cut into one side of the shovel blade for cutting, and yes, it’s sharp! There are also several holes in the shovel, allowing it to be used as a wrench. The business end has both a shovel blade and a pick on the opposite side. The pick is sharp and provides extra digging power when you need it. The unit can be set up to put both the shovel and pic at a 90 degree angle from the handle, allowing the user to flip back and forth between the two tools. The build quality is very good and the tool should last a long time. The only improvement I would like to see on future models is to modify the cloth holder/sheath. It holds the shovel blade, but there is no provision to accept or hold the two handle extensions. It's not a big deal, but it would keep all the parts together. Finally, a note about putting the shovel into the “working” position. The shovel blade is held in place by twisting a large knob built into the handle. However, for maximum stability, there are two nibs that fit into the base of the shovel that don’t always line up and seat properly. Once you know this, you simply turn the washer with the nibs until they seat, and you’re good to go.This is the perfect gift for anyone who enjoys camping or for anyone who wants to be prepared with a shovel and pick in the trunk for emergencies.

Nice little shovel with tons and tons of uses.Pros:Tons of uses and little tools built in for survival:shovel/hoe, emergency climbing pick & digger, cutter for rope/wood/etc,3 sizes of hex wrench holes, a channel for nail removal, folding it in different ways to hang things on trees, a magnesium rod to start fires, bottle opener, screwdriver, window breaker, emergency whistle.Cons:~The description says and some of the description pictures show that the tool also has a small ruler on it, mine does not have that.~The instructions that come with it show that there's supposed to be a fish scaler knife as well, but that's not the case, and the description doesn't mention it. Just something I noticed and felt I should note.~This is really small for digging, so if you have much to dig, you'll be digging for a good while, but it's still much better than bare hands.~There's no carrying storage for the 2 handle attachments for when hanging on your belt or bag. This means having to store them separately which is not always a good idea. I'd like to see some way to attach them to the holster.~The elastic cover that goes over the pick part at the top of the holster could easily get torn with use after not too many times with scraping the pick along the stretched elastic. I'd like to see that done a little differently to preserve the life of the holster.~I'd also like to see the holster come in different camo colors and black to match whatever gear you have.

Overall it's a decent camping shovel but it's too heavy for backpacking and the head of the shovel could stand to be a bit wider. The sheath is usable but the pick part of the shovel tore through the sheath in 1 day on mine. It works, it's portable but there is better out there.

I loved the idea of this so much because there is very little storage space in my Jeep. I never know when I may need a shovel when were out wandering. It fits nicely in the rear and has a good bit of usability, However not all of the multi functions are so great. It may do in a pinch but it'll be super frustrating. That said, this is a solidly built tool that has great strengths to offset the weaknesses and for the cost it is well worth it for an emergency, offroad adventure, or supplement for camping gear.

This is a very solid multi use tool… its primary purpose being a shovel is good for camping and such, but its probably not even the best feature since it’s a slightly smaller shovel head… it has very sharp edges so you have to be careful with it. That said, it’s a great little axe as well. It’s got some other functions as well, but those 2 things are probably going to be the most effective things about it. Once the handle is on there, it’s actually fairly long, but once you pack it up and stow it away, it fits nicely in a smaller space. Overall, a pretty awesome little tool to have on hand.
