Disappointed with this genuine Canon 50mm adaptor. It is made of plastic and it broke on my first outing with a new set of lenses and filters. I have ordered a metal replacement. Better luck second time around I hope.

This adapter, as with any adapter, when a filter is mounted can cause vignetting at various focal lengths. That being said it fits snug and is perfect for adding filters, etc.,just watch for the vignetting (dark areas in the frame caused by extending the length of the lens body just that little bit).

This is the umpteenth Fotodiox product that I have purchased, and as with all the others, it's a quality product made of precision-machined aluminum. I have Fotodiox step-up and step-down rings, lens filters, filter adapters and on and on. When I need accessories for a new camera or lens, I always check first to see if Fotodiox makes it. Because the quality is unfailingly superior, and the prices cannot be beat.A replacement for the expensive--and plastic--, this ring perfectly fits the lens barrel with no marring or scratching. Good quality. Seems like it will work as well, if not better than the Canon part. The Fotodiox adapter is made from metal. The Canon adapter is made of plastic. My Canon adapter (like many other's reviews on here) is sometimes VERY difficult to remove from the filter. This metal one is just like unscrewing any other filter from a regular lens barrel and works pretty flawlessly. I'm tempted to put a very tiny drop of some silicone lubricant on the threads to make them smoother and to absolutely be sure that the threads won't lock onto the filter, but I doubt that would happen if you didn't add any sort of oil/lubricant.

Given the price it was hard to consider the Canon FA-DC58C adapter. Read the reviews on the Canon adapter about it being plastic and what effect that might have on regular changing out of filters for the Canon G1x camera. After some brief testing the Fotodiox adapter should hold well.Yet for the Fotodiox pricing, it is cheap enough to buy one for each of your filter needs. I bought this one for use with a polarizing filter, with thoughts on maybe a closeup filter to give me better closeup capability than the Canon G1x gives. In the end I will be willing to but multiple adapters for my filter needs.
