About this item

  • ACCURATE: More sensors = More accuracy. Conventional stud finders have 1 or 2 sensors. The ProSensor M50 has 5, making it the most accurate stud sensing tool on the market. The ProSensor M50 has a max detection depth of 1 1/2". The LEDs track the location of studs while displaying the center and edges simultaneously.
  • EASY: One mode finds it all! The ProSensor M50 adjusts for a variety of depths, materials and textures. No calibration required. Press and hold the button to begin scanning. Unlike other stud sensors that give false readings, the ProSensor M50 allows you to start scanning anywhere, even over a stud.
  • DISPLAYS FULL STUDS: The ProSensor M50 displays the center and edges of studs simultaneously, showing single studs that other stud finders cannot detect. Works through drywall/sheetrock and more!
  • DURABLE: #1 Rated by consumers and professionals, the ProSensor M50 stud finder is both accurate and durable.
  • EXTRA FEATURES: Live Electrical Warning. Uses common AA batteries. Is NOT compatible with rechargeable batteries.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the center green light mean?

In certain models, the center LED will turn green to indicate the exact center of the stud.

Stud finder, stud finder with bubble level, stud finder wall scanner, wood beam finder

What does the single blinking light mean?

Several of our models now have a low battery indicator. When the battery voltage is low, the second LED from the right will flash. Replace with two brand new batteries.

stud finder, stud finder wall scanner, stud finder with built-in bubble level

Why do the LED lights flash when I first press the button?

In certain models, the LED lights will flash when you first press the button to assure you that the unit is on and receiving power.

Franklin Sensors stud finder, stud finder with live wire detection, stud finder with level

What batteries can I use?

Not all of our models are compatible with rechargeable batteries. For best results, use two brand new, non-rechargeable, AA or AAA batteries (check instructions for details).

What materials do your stud finders detect through?

Sheetrock/Drywall

Our stud finders work best through a single layer of sheetrock/drywall.

Lath and Plaster

While many customers have reported success using our stud finders through lath and plaster, detection is not guaranteed due to irregularities in plaster thickness.

Incompatible Surfaces

We do not recommend using our stud finders through stucco, exterior siding, double layers of sheetrock/drywall (common in condos, townhomes and home theaters), tile, wood flooring, carpet or roofing.

It worked, but not as well as I expected. I had to run it across a stud 3-4 times to get a good reading. In all, I will keep using it, but I will be sure to go very slowly and double-check the location of studs each time I use it.

I bought the Franklin Sensors ProSensor M50 from Amazon. A friend recommended this brand and proclaimed it the best for the price. I opened the battery compartment door of a brand new product just out of the package and - SNAP! The thin, flimsy piece of plastic designed to hold the door shut broke off. The battery compartment will not stay shut now.I did test out the sensor to see how it worked, in case I wanted to get a replacement. The sensor does not work properly. It has 5 lights on it to identify where the stud is located. The sensor would not light up any lights going across a stud from left to right, but would light up if being moved from right to left on the wall over the same stud. I also noticed that I would have the first 3 lights on (far outside, next, and middle) showing a stud. Then, after moving the sensor maybe 1/4" suddenly only 1 light was on. I don't know how a 1.5" wide stud could almost vanish in 1/4" of movement like that. The lights were dancing around a lot like this. It was bizarre and unusable. I had areas in my house where items were secured to studs with the help of a friend and his stud finder previously, so I know where the stud is located. This sensor was a bad guess and not an accurate measurement. Zero confidence this Franklin Sensors product knows what a stud is.I called a phone number for Franklin Sensors on a card inside of the package with the sensor. No one answered and no one returned the call after a few days before writing this review. I tried to give the company a chance and see how the customer service would be. But, no one even attempted to defend the garbage product I had bought. Sending this back to Amazon, and probably looking at another brand (or at a minimum another model without these flaws).

I couldn’t find a stud using my more expensive Stanley stud finder, found this read the reviews and bought one. Used it the first time yesterday and it was easy to use, accurate and fit well in my hands.

Used it after I got it to hang a tv and it was awesome. Next time I got it out to use it the button is jammed up. Don't know of anything that happened to it. Not sure if it was the way it was sitting in the pocket of my tool bag or what, but for the price it doesn't seem very sturdy.

I've used other stud finders but the ProSensor M50 feels good in your hand ergonomically and is super easy to use. It'll definitely do more than hang pictures. I've already used it in a construction setting and it performed very well. I feel like I can throw it in my tool box without worrying about it getting damaged. I'd buy it again except I don't think I'll need to.
