Product Description

15 Piece Advanced Bit Set

From the Manufacturer

This set offers you a large variety of useful bits, from V-grooving to flush trimming, chamfering, and dovetailing. All of the bits are 1/4-inch shank, solid carbide or carbide tipped, and sharpened to a razor-sharp edge for super smooth results. They come in a wooden box; will cut all composition materials, plywood, and softwood; and can be used on handheld and table-mounted portable routers.

Set was great but the first time I used the 3/8 router bit it broke in half I was able to get the whole set replaced.

It's a Freud! I'm just happy to be the proud owner of this bit set. Its incredible quality will last forever and make you happy every day you use it. I love its wooden box and how all the bits are organized. One thing I wish is that the descriptions were printed directly on the wood instead of on plastic tape, but it's okay; I'm sure many professionals probably remove those decals. It arrived quick and in great condition, nothing was missing or broken. It was out of my price range, but I decided to do myself a favor. Instead of spending money on some cheap router bit set, I skipped going out for dinner and got this state-of-the-art bit set.

These are simply superior to anything i've ever had before. I do a lot of woodwork and burned through the cheap ones pretty quick. Went to Ryobi after those, and while those were good, they dont hold a candle to these. They hold an edge like nothing ive ever used, and mind you they are SHARP. Like I cut myself by not paying close attention to where I was pulling them from the case.

1/2 bit snapped first use on ply. Normally a big fan of Freud tools. Was very disappointed this happened first use. Hopefully they come to the table and send me a new one given how expensive they are .

The router bits were tight but with a pair of leather gloves on and twisting each direction was able to free them up. I put some WD-40 on each of the shafts and reinstalled them in the case. They slide out easily now. I did not reinstall them all the way down as they don't require it now that they are in my shop. I am glad that they were tight for shipping to avoid falling out and chipping. Nice wooden case also.

Nice box. Bits are sitting tightly inside the holes, like alot of buyers commented. Managed to get them out with a drop of light oil and a glove. Wait about 30 seconds, grip bit tight and twist. Very nice cutting edge. Hope they can last.

These bits are fantastic, as expected. I use them on a mini router and they slice through stock without any issues. I really do love them. It is very unfortunate however, that they are nearly impossible to get out of the case as many have mentioned. They fit WAY too snugly in their holders. For other tools/bits I wouldn’t mind, but as these things are razor sharp, getting them out really is a dangerous endeavor. To get one out safely, without slicing my fingers open or damaging the bit itself, I have to wrap a towel around the bit and gently work it out with a pair of pliers. Maybe the holes that hold the shanks will loosen over time, but for now it’s a less than ideal situation. With a better case this product would be 5 stars all the way.

The selection of sizes was just what I needed. As others have mentioned, having the 3/16th bit was good for 1/4" plywood that isn't actually 1/4". Used it in a router table and found that I got quite a bit a tear out, but it may have been the 1/2" ply I was cutting and not the bit. The 1/2" worked well in a different material. The only nit pick, and it's not enough to drop a star, is that the bits are incredibly difficult to get out of the case at first. They're very sharp and stuck in the holders like they're glued in; probably took over a minute to work one out, but at least they are well protected.

If you're used to regular straight dado bits, you should consider trying these spiral bits instead. The Woodcraft site has a good article on spiral vs. straight bits, and they point out that with spiral bits, you can plunge straight down like a drill, whereas with straight bits, you have to walk into the cut. From my experience, the spiral bit cuts cleaner and with less effort and burning. These bits are excellent quality, and the set includes one each 3/16", ¼", 5/16", 3/8", and ½" diameter bit. The Amazon price is competitive with what you'll find elsewhere on the web, in fact it was the lowest I found. At $25 per bit, these are almost as cheap as straight bits, and the box is handy to keep them organized. I haven't used these enough to require sharpening, so I can't comment on that aspect. But I sure do like using them, and highly recommend them to everybody with a router.
