1-1/2" (Dia.) Vertical Raised Panel Bit
From the Manufacturer
Freud's precision ground carbide bits have a grain size smaller than other grades, and titanium is added making them impervious to chemical attack. Promoting safer woodworking is the reason Freud made a commitment to develop anti-kickback router bits. Bits are computer balanced to insure vibration-free operation at speeds that are a safe margin above the typical 22,000 RPMs of most routers. Freud's philosophy is woodworkers should expect safety, not pay for it. Over all diameter 1-1/2-inch, large radius 23/64-inch, overall length 3-3/16-inch.

This is my second copy of this bit, the first one is still going but I wanted a sharper one for upcoming work. The first one has been through a lot of MDF for kitchen cabinets and built-ins, and MDF is tough on tools. I much prefer vertical bits for raised panels, and this bit delivers consistent performance over the long haul. I have no problems recommending it.

I had never tried verticle bits but it actually worked great.

Work great. Profile is very nice, and the bit is super sharp. Another excellent Freud product. Just be sure to use a dust mask or respirator. This throws a lot of chips and dust. Shipping was very fast, received it 4 days before the earliest date promised.

This is my first raised panel router bit. I am uncomfortable with the horizontal bits, they seem a bit dangerous. Even this one, I keep the RPM down to ~10,000 RPM. Depending on the stiffness of your router table/insert, taller bits can establish a dangerous vibration. I am routing MDF, this vertical bit works great. Smooth finish. Unfortunately, I have to relieve the backside of the panel so that it will fit into a 1/4" groove. Some of the horizontal bits will do that in one step, but a vertical bit has no such capability. Still, I love this bit and the profile it creates, a classic, straight sided raised panel, and the perceived safety, compared to the horizontal bits.

Needed a router bit to taper cut an edge on some furniture that I was making. This one does the job without any hesitation. Excellent finish cut. Also works well for raised panels.
