My husband and uncle did this together and I didn’t tell them about how another review on here mentions key details about cutting a piece of this shorter initially, and they said if I had mentioned it in the first place it would have helped them a lot lolSo please find that review on here. But otherwise I haven’t had any issues so far, happy with the results.Installed 9/1/24

The kit is convenient and includes everything you need to do the front struts and rear shocks on a 2009 Scion XB.Unfortunately the front strut top studs are much longer than the OEM and barely fit. This makes insulation more difficult.

Just installed them today, so no long term review here. Background; 2011 Scion xB gen2, just under 100k miles. I have never replaced the front struts till now. Install was pretty straight forward and pretty easy really. Only two things stand out. The sway bar links that attach to the strut, if you live in a northern climate with lots of ice and snow with lots of salt on the road, replace the sway bar links with the struts. Mine were so rusted that the studs to the tie ends stripped out with the 6mm female Allen fitting and the 17(?)mm nut. I sourced some replacements locally same day and was able to complete the install. basically had to cut and grind out the old sway bar links, messy but it got them out and prepped for the new ones. Second, as at least one other review commented, the bolt studs at the top bearing of the strut tower are WAY too long and made putting all the other things on the car hard to put back together over the nut and stud location in the engine compartment. I ended up cutting about 3/4” off the studs and was able to get things to clear for total reassembly. Lastly, the quality of the ride is so much better, much tighter, more responsive. Some have commented the ride was too hard but I think it’s great. My front ride height increased by 1 1/4” on both of the front wheels, so the old struts were obviously tired. I have not done the rear shocks yet, i have replaced them before with KYB OEM shocks, easy thing to do. With this kit, you do not get all the parts you need for the rear shocks unless you want to recycle a bunch of parts which I’m not going to do. You will need to get a KYB kit SM5840 for the Gen2 scion xb, one kit per shock. Generally, I’m pretty happy, a budget install that saves a few bucks on parts costs and a huge savings for DIY vs going to a shop to have it done. I figure I’m all in at around 250 on parts and going to the shop would be a min 1000 for them to do it all turn key. 4-5 hours (given the afore mentioned unexpecteds) of my time is well worth a 750 savings., I basically paid myself 150 an hour. And, I put my own eyes on all the other things going on with the car, at least in the wheel wells. Now, let’s see if they last 60k miles…..
