The real pressure switch did not work on my truck for some reason it wasn’t set properly

So I was driving down the road in my 2004 Dodge diesel and it started surging and then pinging. Luckily I was almost home. When I looked into it someone had suggested the fuel rail pressure sensor. Low hanging fruit and all. BTW, its $300+ at the parts stores. I also asked a diesel mechanic for things to check first and plugged a reader in to the OBD2 port. Everything checked out except the reader did NOT show the readings from the sensor. Newer models did however. (06' and up to be precise.) From a surging standpoint it could be a few mechanical failures, on the other hand it was also pinging. No reference material I could find linked the two, as they are wildly different fuel densities in the combustion chamber. However, I figured that the sensor giving off a signal that was still within spec could be missed even if it was bouncing around like a ball. Low pressure then high and so on. Surging then pinging and so on. Furthermore, it was right on top and took longer to find the socket then to install it. Seriously, I found one store had it for over $900! Arm, leg and both my kidneys!

Works as intended. Have had it installed on my 03 common rail for around 25K miles. Still working just fine! Great price and seems to be lasting pretty well

Put this on a 2006 5.9 cummins. I've heard of people paying $300-$500 for these. Its at least a good place to start chasing down a rail pressure problem for a good price. Not sure how long it'll last but, it fit!
