Thick and string. I used these to resolve a pair of slippers. I was able to cut them to size with a sharp knife.

I have a pair of famous make moccasins that had worn through at the sole in two places. These are moccasins. They do not have a conventional hard sole, just another layer of leather. I thought it would be a shame to throw them away. Except for the bottoms, they were like new. I inquired of a local cobbler and was told that to replace the leather on the bottoms it would cost at least $75. So, I decided to try another approach. So, I ordered these soles. They are made of first class hard leather and come oversized, but you can select the thickness. I chose the thinnest. I used shoe glue to attach them and clamped them overnight. I then shaped them using a belt sander. Going on three weeks now. Look professional and holding up like iron. For the price, a no-brainer!
