I'm a hobbyist bookbinder and have been bookbinding for about 2 years now. When I first started, I couldn't find an affordable bookpress anywhere, so a friend made one for me. Even with the free wood from my friend, the longer bolts and wingnuts etc still cost more than the total price of this set. You're definitely getting a good value with it. That said... it did arrive with 4 less washers than indicated in the instructions, but I had some extra in my toolbox, so it was okay. The wood is extremely lightweight, so I'm not sure how it will hold up long term, especially when doing smaller books. As you tighten the edges in the press and if the books are repeatedly too small and too thick, you may be bending the board too much. That's something I'd watch for. But, otherwise, for the price, this press cannot be beat. Solid investment for those starting in bookbinding.

I don't know what to say about this. I straight up don't like it, but that's personal and not being objective. Actually, it is being objective. To me, it's just a bad design for the price. The feet aren't going to stay on. I question the seal and it also feels like it's going to easily get banged up... which will show. Mostly, I hate the screws. It's going to be a pain to get everything level. Maybe I'm being too picky and impatient, but I'd say just go make your own. Three stars.💙

What a great value for a nice standard book press. It comes with all the hardware to assemble, and the holes are cut very well so that even the inset bolt heads fit perfectly. I will note that the directions instruct you to put a washer under the inset bolt. I don't know why you would do that because the bolt would no longer be inset, so I left that part out and it came together great. Also another note that the wood is very light weight. This is good because it's not too heavy to carry around, but I hope it holds up to the pressure of the press. I am using this to replace a book press that split down the middle due to the pressure applied, and I hope this one doesn't meet the same fate. But, for the price, I'm OK if it lasts a little while. For the money I would definitely recommend this press.

This book press is quite a bit narrower than the book presses of this style that I've used in the past. The boards are also a bit lighter. The hardware that aids in the compression of the materials you put in the press aren't heavy duty either.I think this product is good for amateur projects--not for professional binding or conservation work.

Nice quality but package came with missing parts unfortunately. One of the wing nuts is missing so I’ll have to get a replacement.

This is a fantastic, entry level book press. It's a good size, easy to put together (with some additional tips below) and will get the job done. However, there are a couple of issues with the instructions. The "Installation steps" sheet included with the press has a great diagram, except that it's wrong. It indicates 3 flat washers per long screw. Nope. There are only 8 washers included so you can't use 3 per screw anyway. Also, there's no notation that one board has 4 countersunk (recessed) holes on one side. That side is the bottom of the press. Countersinking the screws allows the bottom to remain flat so the head of the screw doesn't act like feet. Because the countersink hole is the shape of the screw head, you CAN'T put a washer on the bottom. The washer wouldn't allow the screw head to "sink" into the hole. Which is probably a confusing way to say that there is a board that has a side which belongs on the bottom. And the 8 flat washers you get in the package are enough to put the press together. Also I didn't put the "anti-slip mat" feet on the bottom of the screws as indicated in the diagram. The adhesive feet are larger than the screw head so I applied them next to the screws. The boards are very light weight wood so I'm not sure this press would work for a large, thick book but haven't tested that yet.Overall, it's a great tool for a beginner to mid level book binder at a reasonable price.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I am very impressed in this book binder. I got it so that I can create my own special edition sprayed covers for my books and this did not disappoint. It keeps the book nice and sturdy as I am able to either paint by hands the page edges or use spray paint with a stencil. The assembly time was less than five minutes and I was able to spray my first copy within minutes of receiving it. I’m very happy with this product and will be using it for other projects like plant pressing and more.

This press came with 5 washers missing. The wood used is also really cheap and lightweight. I worry it'll deflect once tightened. But I can't even test it without the washers. How does anyone forget 5 washers? That's like half the total required to be used.
