nüvi 2497LMT features to help you spend more time on the move. With Garmin Traffic, your driving map remains onscreen at all times. Traffic alerts appear to the side of your map and messages are spoken, too. Garmin Traffic can give details about the situation, such as how many minutes of delay to expect and if there are any possible detours. It can even confirm whether or not you are on the fastest route. Garmin Traffic is voice activated, so it responds to spoken requests.

Lifetime traffic² entitles your nüvi 2497LMT to receive free traffic information for its entire useful life.

Garmin Real Directions™ with Garmin Real Voice™

nüvi 2497LMT redefines “spoken turn-by-turn directions” with Garmin Real Directions, easy-to-understand driving directions that guide like a friend, using recognizable landmarks, buildings and traffic lights. No more stress from trying to read street names. Garmin Real Voice is refined speech technology that sounds more like a natural, friendly voice. Garmin Real Directions and Garmin Real Voice are features that are only available in our line of GPS navigators.

Bluetooth® Compatible

Sync a Bluetooth-enabled device, such as your smartphone, to nüvi 2497LMT for hands-free calling through its integrated microphone and speaker. Safely stow your phone in a glove compartment, pocket or purse and still make and take calls without moving your hands from the steering wheel or your eyes from the road.

Smartphone Link Compatible

Smartphone Link also gives you access to Garmin Live Services⁴, useful real-time information such as weather and traffic conditions. Garmin Live Services are available free and by subscription.

Comprehensive Driving Guidance You See and Hear

Active Lane Guidance with voice prompts prepares you to drive through an exit or interchange with confidence. As you approach, an animated model uses brightly colored arrows to indicate the proper lane needed for your route; a friendly voice offers additional help. Bird’s Eye junction view offers a detailed view of interchanges, looking down as if from overhead. photoReal junction view realistically displays junctions and interchanges along your route, including the surrounding landscape. Brightly colored arrows indicate the proper lane to drive. nüvi 2497LMT also depicts real road signs as they appear along your route.

¹If you purchase a nüMaps Lifetime subscription (sold separately or bundled together with certain GPS models), you will receive up to 4 map data updates per year, when and as such updates are made available on Garmin’s website, for 1 compatible Garmin product until your product’s useful life expires or Garmin no longer receives map data from its third party supplier, whichever is shorter. A product’s “useful life” means the period during which the product (a) has sufficient memory capacity and other required technical capabilities to utilize current map data and (b) is capable of operating as intended without major repairs. A product will be deemed to be out of service and its useful life to be ended if no updates have been downloaded for such product for a period of 24 months or more. Unless otherwise stated, the updates you receive under the subscription will be updates to the same geographic map data originally included with your Garmin product when originally purchased. In some instances, your Garmin product might not have sufficient memory remaining for you to load an update to the map data, in which case you will need to either (a) select reduced map data coverage for your updates, or (b) purchase separately a microSD™/SD™ card (if and as applicable to your Garmin product) and load all or a portion of the map data coverage for your updates to the card and insert the card into the microSD/SD card slot contained in your Garmin product. If neither of the measures in (a) or (b) can be used to address your product’s lack of sufficient remaining memory, then Garmin may conclude that the “useful life” of your product has expired. Garmin may terminate your nüMaps Lifetime subscription at any time if you violate any of the terms of this agreement or your subscription. Your nüMaps Lifetime subscription may not be transferred to another Garmin product.

²FREE lifetime traffic updates may not be transferred to another person or another Garmin product. Lifetime traffic extends for the useful life of your Garmin traffic receiver (as long as you own a compatible Garmin GPS) or as long as Garmin receives traffic data from its traffic supplier, whichever is shorter. A traffic receiver’s “useful life” means the period during which the receiver (a) has the required technical capabilities to utilize current traffic data service and (b) is capable of operating as intended without major repairs. Traffic content not available for all areas. See traffic coverage areas.

³User’s data plan charges, if any, will apply. Contact your mobile service provider for more information about your service plan’s data and roaming rates.

I haven't purchased a nuvi in about 5 years and was surprised at the progress. I just got it yesterday so these are first impressions. I like that it has more info on screen but I also understand why screens are getting bigger-font is small - but still better than my phone. The upcoming food and gas is new to me. Showing the road you're on and upcoming road is like my old 760. Coloring the current speed red reminds me of my bricked 765t. The split screen works much better than my old ones (I also have a 885t) and the searches are faster. I like not having to put in the city and state. The verbal instructions are easier to follow (e.g. Turn at the next light) and briefer. The look ahead for food, fuel, or hotel seems like it will be helpful. I installed smart link and successfully transferred a few points to the nuvi. Weather info and where I parked seem like they will be handy. I mainly got the 2497 to have backup camera capability which I haven't done yet but it is a nice upgrade of functions even without that. Now if it only would play my MP3s.....

Excelente, pero tienes que bajar actualizaciones de inmediato, ya que hay muchas vías nuevas en el DF que no vienen precargargadas.

I finally threw in the towel with my Tom-Tom. The long satellite acquisition times even with their weekly download of satellite positions and its habit of resetting when getting near the destination got me to buy another Garmin. A previous Garmin Model 1450 did not work very well, but I thought I would give Garmin another chance. I am glad I did. The Nuvi 2497 LMT works very well. It acquires quickly. Out of the box took less than a few minutes and if used on a daily basis, it usually acquires in less than 30 seconds. It will even start to acquire in my garage which does have one window.Garmin finally got setting up preplanned routes right. It is called trip planning under Apps. You can have multiple routes and they are easy to set up and edit. One thing you should be aware of is that if you miss a waypoint on a route even by a little bit, it will continue forever to try to get you to that waypoint. Older versions would automatically go to the next waypoint after you got a certain distance from the missed waypoint. They give you a manual on screen button to go to the next waypoint. If you actually pass through a waypoint it automatically goes to the next waypoint. I can understand why for some, like delivery people, this could be a useful feature so I did not lower my rating because of it.Garmin changed the user interface somewhat from previous models. The changes have no apparent benefit; but once you use it a few times, it is ok. Saving a saved place (what used to be called a favorite) is a bit more convoluted. Labeling a place you saved by touching the map can be done, but it is not obvious. Hit the information field.Garmin also did a good job with updating maps and software. I plugged the device into the computer and went to the Garmin web site. No nonsense about accounts and passwords was needed. You have to download an app which installed easily. After that the update just worked. I have not tried Base Camp, Garmin's route planing software, yet. On my previous Garmin, Base Camp just didn't work. It would do all the planning perfectly, but would not load the data into the Garmin. I will update this review when I try Base Camp with the Nuvi 2497LMT.The reason I gave this model only four stars is that I would grade the voice recognition feature only at best a C- . It does a a better job with finding a saved place than for example finding an intersection. The device does not learn. It will make the same mistake in interpreting a command again and again. Some things work well. The fixed Go Home command works almost every time. Another improvement would to give you a distinguishable sonic alarm when the device can't execute a voice command. It gives a positive response, but no negative response. When you realize that the command didn't work, you tend to look at the screen which defeats a lot of the purpose of voice commands. The voice command feature is basically a toy that you could probably do without. The reason I bought this model rather than the one that didn't have voice commands was that the Garmin literature was very confusing about how street directions worked in the lower model. I sent a question about it to customer service before I bought, but they just repeated the question in the answer and didn't actually answer the question. I spent the extra $20 for the model that clearly did what I wanted with street directions and as I said the voice recognition feature is kind of a fun toy with marginal use.The Nuvi 2497LMT is a good functional GPS unit at an excellent price. It is a good choice.

For my money, this is a perfect little GPS unit.I am coming from an old Nuvi 360. I loved that thing and was a huge proponent of the Garmin GPS systems. I talked them up to anyone who would listen. The 360 served me well for many many years and was still in excellent working order when I decided to go for a new unit. Why did I want to get a new one when the 360 was still working? I had a few criteria....1) better satellite reception2) slightly wider screen for my aging eyes3) lifetime maps (my old nuvi was starting to get out of date and it didn't have free map updates)4) VOICE ACTIVATEDHonestly, the voice activated feature was my most important consideration and I probably would not have upgraded if I couldn't have gotten voice activation at a reasonable price. I've been watching the prices come down over the years and when I purchased it a few months ago I thought the price was more than fair (about a hundred and fifty). So, what do I like:- the satellite is much stronger on this so I am no longer "awaiting satellite reception" forever during a rain storm or other inclement weather- Real Directions and Active Lane Guidance are a huge help as well. Not something I would have thought I'd needed until now when I've gotten used to having it. I love that she tells me what lane to get into particularly when I am in very unfamiliar territory.- The bluetooth works great. I typically have my phone bluetoothed to Nuvi rather than the phone system in the car- VOICE ACTIVATION! Wow, I am all about the voice activation... so easy to just tell her where we want to go. She understands saved places very well. She also understands fairly large chain stores as well as things like "library" or "train station." See the con section of my review for the things she doesn't comprehend all that well. And she can insert a way point. Let's say you are on your way to aunt Mary's house but you remember that you need to pick up a pie to bring her.... You call out the pie store and she will insert that as a stop along the way.- she tells you the speed limit and cautions you (with a red glow around your current speed) if you are going over that limitWhat don't I like:- She's not so good at understanding spoken street names (in fact, she's pretty horrible at this so you would be better off just typing in an address destination) and also not so good at comprehending other spoken words. You are generally better off typing in the names of many destinations. Some of the things she comes up with are amusing but a bit maddening if you are in a rush.- When she is not giving directions she displays the current time on the map view. When she is in GPS direction mode the only time you will see is the ETA time. There might be a way to see both, but I haven't figured it out. I would love to see both clocks side by side in future incarnations of this device.- It took me a while of poking around to figure out how to save a place to my saved places. It didn't seem intuitive. Now that I know how to do it, it seems totally intuitive. For those of you who don't know and are pulling your hair out (as I did) to try to figure it out, you simply tap on the car icon on the screen when you are at the location you want to save. Tapping on the car icon brings up the save screen where you can type in a name for your new saved place. TADA.- My old Nuvi let me change the voice to a sexy british male voice. This nuvi has limited voice options. I miss my sexy guy pal.None of the cons are enough for me to deduct a star or even a half a star. This thing is fantastic and makes for much safer driving. Tell her where you want to go and she gets right on it.BOTTOM LINE: I recommend this GPS device HIGHLY.... I am a gadget freak and this is one of the best I've used
